Imitrex and high blood pressure

I'm concerned about using the Imitrex nasal spray my doc just prescribed me because I'm also being treated for hypertension with Atenolol. I'm assuming that my doc wouldn't prescibe this med if he didn't feel it would be safe for me to take, but after reading the info about Imitrex I am a little concerned. So far I haven't used the Imitrex. Luckily my CHs have only been at about a 5-6 so far, so I'm dealing pretty good. I THINK ?!?! Any feedback from anyone else who is using Imitrex and also being treated for HBP? I am trying to get back in touch with my doc, but wanted to get some thoughts from others who have had some experience.

Don't know about the high bp, as mine is relatively low. But have you tried any other abortives? Zomig, amerge, axert? And is your doctor willing to try them? And what about O2?

| I would call the office and ask the question specifically. It may have been an oversight. Meds can kill you! CH can't...well, not directly.

I have taken imitrex injections while on Diovan 320 and verapamil 240. The Diovan is directly for high B/P and the verapamil for CH (although the verapamil also lowers B/P.). The doctors are aware of this and I had no troubles. John

hey Retta.... for what it's worth... remember we are NOT DOCTORS.... and you should do what YOUR doc says (unless it's contrary to the O2 info at the left)..... anyway... I have hypertension/high blood pressure and I also take atenolol to control it. I have no problem with Imitrex but we're all different.... MY doc gave me an injection of Imitrex in his office before he would let me have it--to monitor how I reacted. I, personally, do not like the *greasy* rush from Imitrex and only use it for K-10.... it works... ... but o2 is my BEST friend.... and has only let me down about ....well, 20 times.... but out of, say, a few thousand attacks, that's not too bad..... good luck, but do what your doctor says.... there HAS to be a reason they make the money they do... I hope.... best... Steve(N4H)

Hi Retta, If you don't have one already, I would recommend getting a blood pressure monitor. I think I paid $40.00 for mine last summer and it works great. It's a good thing to have around. Sorry I don't have advise about high blood pressure, mine's very low. Take it easy, ...Mark..
