Hey everyone..I just got a pop-up on my screen advertising something called Migra-Spray.  Anybody tried this stuff?  It's an over-the-counter medication.  Check it out on www.migraspray.com   Huh

a) I am suspicious of anything being sold by pop-ups. Hate em.

b) Its a homeopathic formula - probably very weak.

c) active ingredients: feverfew (well studied for migraines, might concievably help in clusters if dosage is adequate), polyporous (a fungus, interesting polysaccharides), goldenseal.

d) claims relief in 7 minutes - not consistent with scientific literature on feverfew, which takes days or weeks to prevent (not abort) migraines.

e) claims a double-blind, placebo controlled study validated this product, but no study published anywhere that PubMed can index it.

f) claims the cost "is less than $1 per day" yet sells a months supply for $39.95!  How many days in their month?

g) heavy emphasis on testimonials - common practice among hucksters.

I would not spend my money on this. If you want to try feverfew, get a good brand that is standardized to parthenolide content.  Avoid ground herb in gelatin capsules, as parthenolide can oxidize. Parthenolide is sensitive to heat - if the herb was dried above 100 F, there may not be any active ingredient in the product.

Also, be careful with feverfew!  It is an anti-coagulant.  Can cause excessive bleeding in an injury situation.

Just a warning!

Thanks for the information.  But being a clusterhead when the demons start to hit you will try ANYTHING to stop them.  If someone told me cow urine would stop them, I'd be hunting for a cow with a full bladder.   laugh  Thanks again for the insight.

!!!!!

Heads up ladies....

Feverfew has also been shown to counteract oral contraceptives. If you decide to take it, call for backup.

headbanger,

got any references on the feverfew-contraceptive issue?  I know saint johns wort might impair the pill, but haven't found anything on feverfew doing that.

(Deja vu?  I think this conversation occurred before, but I have a blank spot in my memory. sorry).

Oh thats just fucking great!

Now in addition to checking IDs, medical histories for HIV testing and STD testing I have to ask the lady...

"Oh, and by the way, are you homeopathic"?

Can expect this reply............

"Nope, I only do men."
