Oooops! Forgot A Question About the 02

Sorry, I forgot to ask the question about the mask that is used for 02 treatment. The web site and responses from our posting say to use a NON-REBREATHER mask. The neuro's order for 02 said "Rebreathe 6 ltrs for 5-10 minutes". Western Iowa Medical gave us the mask, it is clear with holes on each side and covers the nose and mouth. The picture on the web site of a NON-REBREATHER Mask shows a small bag attached to the bottom of this mask. HAVE WE GOT THE RIGHT MASK???? Has our neuro written the order for the right mask? Very confusing!! Hope you guys can help, don't have the neuro's home phone number to call him, and he'd really be a jerk about it if we did! Jon just hates to think about starting all over with another Dr. and all new meds with bad side effects. But if he goofed on this, he might think differently! Thanks for the help! Judy_K

Judy, if the right mask is not delivered, go into town, seek out a medical supply firm and buy it yourswelf. Not worth the hassle explaining to everybody. Although I must say I use the mask you describe and it works for me. BUT: you need a higher flow rate!!!! Normal is the 10-15 liters range. For about 1o mins, no longer, unless the pain is already ebbing. And don't strap the mask on! If the pain subsides one may fall asleep and wake up with dry lungs. Scary!

Judy, you bring up a great point. I too was given the mask that you describe your husband has right now. I also have the nasal cannula which I haven't used. Maybe that explains why I haven't had as amuch success as others with the oxygen. I know that my family physician who ordered it for me didn't know alot about itso, I don't fault him, but I live in Maine and the neurologist group that I see are not the greatest, but I would really have to travel to go to see another, so I deal. Thanks for asking that question D Byrd
