Dr. gave me Fovra today

I went to see my Dr. today because last 2 pred. tapers did not work. I am short Ins. till April, so he gave me fovra samples said to take for 7 days and call him back and tell him if headaches return. Anyone ealse on this ? Has it worked for any of you ? Dr. seems discouraged he said I have tried everything ealse, i.e. ergostat, imitrex, zomig, verapamill, pred., just to name a few. Seems my father had developed similar symptoms daily headaches with constant dull pain inbetween big pain. he has had an MRA (scan of veins in head) seems his vessels are bursting at random causing fluid build up . Dr's call it "small vessel disease" My dr. seems confident that I have CH and not this small vessel thing, but symptoms are strangely similar. dodie

Dodie, I took Frova when I was in cycle. It didn't stop my ha's, but it did shorten the time of the ha. I was not instructed to take as you were. I was to take it at the sign of the CH. Sounds like your Doc is giving it to you like a preventative. There are some others here who have taken it. You know, not all meds work for all people. So, I am not sure that you can make a determination from our story. There is a couple of new folks here on Frova. One was given instructions like you were.....7 days. When his 7 days were up...I think he had 2 pf days....then the ha's returned. I went on a Prednisone taper. It stopped my cycle, and I have had no ha's or shadows since. That was 4 months ago. However, the Pred does not work that way for everyone. Hope you have success.....and lots of pf time, Jean

Jean, Ive been on the frova 4 days now and have had 3 days of shadows. Last night I had a killer CH, I tried the hot /cold shower thing and it didnt work. I kicked and screamed for about an hour, then finaly passed out. I dont think it will work for me. I was on pred taper for 2 weeks prior to this and the CH kept comming back after each taper. He wanted to try something different because i gained 8 lb. on the pred. I hate the thought of living on the stuff. thanx for responding. I am going to ask him about some of the other meds I read are working for people on here. dodie

Just ended my Frova before it really began. This stuff is supposed to have a 26 hour half-life? HA! Needed to go every 12 hours to keep the h/a's at bay. Had my 'going away from Frova' party last night with 3 hours of a k8-9 from 2-5a.m. Guess it was a combo of scheduled attack and rebound from the now 'unconstricted' vessels. Plus, after the dance, hot/cold shower, I went to sleep only to be awakened again by a k5 for just a final hour in the AM. I love this condition. Just gives me warm fuzzies all over.

my neuro at Duke here in NC, put me on 2 pills a day 7days of frova, no CH's while on the frova, then for a couple of nights (i'm usually nocturnal) i had CH's return, but caught them early with imitrex nasal, seems my cycle is over for this time, so I'de say it held them at bay, for the most part, and shortened my overall duration. But not secure enough in it to not keep my imitex on hand at all times...GL to all, pf times are a coming...

Now this is a post for me. I tried Frova. Didn't really work for me. Actually intensified them and shortened the duration. Going thru a laser treatment this Friday for a kidney stone that topamax brought on. Won't go into the details. I'm very nervous. It took 9 months for me to develop kidney stones on topamax if anyone's interested.

| Wow...that's pretty fast. Glad I took tons of water for the short period that I was on it. I do know that it made me incredibly constipated which is also related to the kidney stone effect....but this is reallly a fast reaction.

I tried taking 600mg of topamax at the suggestion of a specialist neuro at the headache clinic I went to. Didn't help me just made me loopy. Yuk. Never again. I tried frova and it only kept my migraines and clusters away for 2 hours and then they were back again. It was only effective as imitrix was for me. So at least 2 hours latter when the headache kicked back in I could take imitrix every 2 hours. With the frova I couldn't take anything for 12 hours. That sucked! I was told to take one frova at the onset of a headache. And that I should get extra benefit from it since it is suppose to make you pain free for 12 hours. What a joke! I got hit every 2 hours. I went back to the imitrix pretty quickly.
