Hot/cold showers

I know I've read of this on the board a long time ago but thought it is worth mentioning again. Back in to 90s while on a business trip to Atlanta I was getting ht bad, as usual (all 9s or 10s). Since I didn't have my O2 with me my only recourse was to take the beast for a walk. One night after an hour or so of walking, I dragged myself back to my hotel with the beast still raging. I got into the shower, turned it on as hot as I could stand and soaked for 5 minutes all the while still at a 10. After the 5 minutes were up, I reached down and turned the hot water off completely. The shock from going from hot to cold was incredible but almost immediatly the ch started to diminish and after a few minutes was gone completely. I haven't tried it since but if really desperate would do so. Anybody else? Kip

thats my exact night time treatment. I start with the hot to soothe the headache. I may do that for 10 minutes. then I shock my body with the ice cold water. I have been about 90% succesful doing that so far.

Well, last night I had another fooggin' CH from hell. I took a very very hot shower (looked like a lobster for a while). Felt relieved for a few seconds, and then the BS started increasing drastically! My wife put ice cubes in a ziplock bag and wrapped it in a towel. I put it behind my neck by the base of the skull and bingo! It stopped almost immediately! I was so happy because I thought I was gonna reach a 10 in no time as I've been for the past few nights! Ha! F*** you stupid pain!!! I'm getting so sick of it!!!

Old geezer??? Dodie, just what are you implying? Actually, a heart attack would be a welcome relief from a cluster attack. Kip BTW, I guess I qualify for the old geezer status now but back when I tried it I was just a young geezer.

| That is exactly what happens to me. Never aborts, but the temporary relief is awesome. My attacks always ramp back up, but normally back to the pain level it was prior to the scalding shower. I have tried ice cold showers as well. The cold ones have no effect at all on me. Chris

I will sit down in the tub and let the hot water run over my head. I can't be still when I'm having a bad one so I rock back and forth while still trying to keep hot water on my head. It doesn't work right away but somehow it helps to deal with it a little once I stop banging my head on the shower wall!

Hi to all I can identify with most of the things said on this topic so far. I've found the whole shower thing to be hit and miss. The only aspect not mentioned is I sometimes found that after a cold shower hadn't worked if i dried off naturally with no towel the cold feeling would sometimes abort that particular headache. Could be a coincidence of course. Cheers Filbert

Maybe Bob has more here than what it looks like. Not just hot, not just cold, but a sharp shock to the system. Let;'s try it! Oh, and when female, is one an old geezeress? Or geezessa? `Hi, I am Ave, an old geezstress...'

Dodie, no need to appoligize, I know your intentions were good... or were they??? Ave (geezstress), I think you nailed it, the shock was enough to chase off the beast. Kip aka geezer
