Hello everybody: I'm new here. I have just been diagnosed by a neuro. Though, I believe that I have been suffering clusters for the last 10 years on an episodic basis. Been using imitrex tablets with a lot of success for the past five. Yes I know that in most people that the cluster attack is over by the time the tablet can kick in. My clusters are slightly longet in duration....45 min to 1.5 hrs. My most recent cycle started a month ago. It has been by far the worst for me....3 to 5 attacks per day....more than I can control with imitrex. Finally went to a neuro (getting no elp from my regular doctor). Sh perscribed dexmethazone and oxygen. I have been cluster free for two days. I'm having pretty bad heartburn and violent hiccups. I think I may have that controlled with antacid for the time being. The point of this ramble is......Has anyone had success in breaking a cycle with dexamethazone. And, what can I expect when I am done taking this stuff. I am a little concerned about reports from some of ya'll about attacks coming back when getting off of steriods. And, no she has not yet perscribed a preventative for a long term basis. Anyway, thanks ya'll. I hope you have some idea how helpful you have all been to me in the last four weeks.

Hey Pappy, I couldn't handle the side effects of Prednisone, so my Doc put me on milder Dexamethasone... I haven't had any problems with it. I can't say it "breaks" the cycle, but it does wonders for the neck pain, eyebrow pain, etc that comes with these CH's. It definately also reduces the number and intensity of CH's. -Brad

I used this during last cycle and developed thrush. On the taper the headaches came back. Several years ago after two rounds with the stuff I did have some relief for a few days. For me the side effects didn't equal the benefits. Hope you have luck with it. John

Dexamethasone is ±7.5 times stronger than prednisone, it's not "milder", it's the strongest corticoid we know ! It means: With 1 mg of dexamethasone and with 7,5 mgs of prednisone you get the same therapeutic effect - but also the same side effects. And there is a rule: Never take a corticoid withaut a gastric protection like ranitidin, for example. Thomas
