Visit with HA specialist yeaterday

Some thoughts in no particular order: - He was very good, listened well, extremely knowledgable about all sorts of HA inccluding CH. - His name is Richard Black in Dallas, took me nearly 3 months to get in and that was due to a cancellation. He's very good. - He knew all about melatonin, said lots of his CH people are using it. 3-10mg was an appropriate dosage. Said melatonin might be avoided by people with disposition to heart disease because it's a vasoconstrictor. Said no reason for me to stop so long as it's working. - Gave me a 14-page medical report on clusters dated 2000. Believe is same as the one I've read on this or the other website but I'll look for the link again and if it's difefrentI'll post here in its entirety. - He's a big proponent of Imitrex injections, happy to write me a scrip should melatonin fail me. - Next suggested step is Vepramil should melatonin fail me. - Said suicide incidence among CH sufferers is very high, called CH the "suicide headache." - Said maybe 30% of episodic sufferers turn into chronics (bad news), but treating the sufferers while they are still episodic *may* help them from changing into chronics (jury's still out but this is his feeling so far).

He suggested that Imitrex rebound HAs were uncommon among episodics.

| 3 months is a long time to wait. Did he offer O2? It is a blessing for me ! Where is his office, I've heard of him but cannot remember where he is located. Rick

Since you are in Dallas don't miss our gettogeather in Feb. Check out the "Texas Meet & Greet" thread on the general board.

He's at Greenville and Walnut Hill at the northwest corner in a bank building. Pretty close to my house in Lake Highlands. He didn't mention O2, likely because my mela's working well. I haven't ventured to the main board, but will definitely come to the Dallas meeting - that's for pointing that out, I'll have a look.

jflynn, since it takes so long to get to to see him I hope you went ahead and made a follow-up appointment. Sounds like you've got a decent MD there.

No, it's not a headache--it's a Stage Ten Primary Chronic Periodic Idiopathic Trigeminovascular Cephalalgic Crisis.

Either way, it is the only portable means I have to abort, and I would use it even if it did cause rebounds. Make sure to check out the tip link on the left side of the page in case you have not already. Chris

| Thanks Chris, I have known about the tip link for years, I also know my cycles got longer and more sever using any kind of imitrex. I'm not alone in this. For those of you that can only use imitrex to abort, I understand and am in no way saying NO ONE should use it, but doc's should be willing to try other abortives that work as well as if not better than imitrex.
