Just wanted to take a quick pole to see the average severity of of fellow sufferers attacks. use the kip scale (I'm new, i think thats what you call it). How many 10's have you had? Is it normal to have 9's all the time? Just interested in some feedback..... Thanks to all who respond

Mine are all over the place. They usually start out at the beginning of a cycle with 2's and 3's. Within a week they are up to 4's and 5's. Then I have a few weeks where 6's to 8's are the norm. Then I usualy have 2 to 4 days where 9's are hitting every few hours. Then the cycle starts back down, and its a few 4's and 5's and ends with a few 2's and 3's, which is thankfully, where I am now. About 4 "10's" and 6 or so "9's" a month...chronically. What is your impression of a 10? I cannot describe anything similar, but a bruised rib sits about a 4 and a "brain freeze" HA is roughly a 5 on the pain scale. When I get to 6, I start to become debilitated. Chris

Unfortunately, the norm for me are "Kip 9's". Each and everyone feels 'devestating' at the time and last for 15-20 minutes providing I get the Imitrex injection quickly. Bob described it nicely on his news video that's on his website. "Two Red-Hot Screwdrivers" sounds pretty accurate to me ~ Unsolved ~

Generally 5-7 with an occasional 8. I guess I'm lucky (haha). Only went to hospital once with a 10 not knowing what it was, I thought it was a bad sinus infection. They also were clueless. My 1:30am wakeup call tends to be a 6 or 7 and hot showers help.

Before I found a preventative that worked I would get hit with kip 10's all day long. That is 8 ha a day each 1 1/2 hours long. It sucks being chronic.

This cycle - I pretty much when they start it is 3-4 and if I do not get to it right then, It goes to an 9 really quick. (I still have not talked my doctor into getting me on O2, plan on handing him a ream of paper showing that there HAVE BEEN CLINICAL STUDIES that PROVE it is EFFECTIVE) but if I can get to the imitrex I normall hit a 6-7 about 2-3 times a day.

Good poll... in my case, the pain varies a lot during a day. My attacks are usually from 5 to 9. Luckily for me, I haven't had a 10 in a long time... Best wishes & PFdays, sandie99

Very first one is usually a 10 - sends me to the ER, makes me puke from pain and slam my head against something. week 1-3: Two 5-6's during day, one 7-9 at night. week 4- 6: all over the board, 2 - a few 10s. week 7 and on: one 6-8 during the AM, one at night. I'm on my 3rd month of this cycle. Longest one I've ever had. I get one 6-8 between 10-11 AM, and one 6-8 at about 1:30 AM. sigh... Chris

Before I began serious preventive meds, I started getting bad clusters (kip 9 and 10) daily for about 10 - 11 months out of the year about 6 months after I turned 27. Fortunately, by the time I turned 29 I had some decent meds. It was the worst thing; I couldn't even go to sleep with a cluster - in fact, if I was in a deep sleep and a cluster came on it WOKE me up!! Those are the worst because your brain is trying to give you the warning signs, but by the time you wake up you have about 5 minutes before your on the floor screaming and flailing like a little kid. I had to begin setting my alarm clock to go off every 4 hours so I could wake up and take aspirin. One other time I tried to take two valiums in an effort to knock myself out; no luck there - I was just drowsy - but still in pain and couldn't go to sleep. That one was bad. Of course after the things were over I would be so wiped out that I couldn't move for about a half hour or so - my body was physically tired after dealing with the pain. That was very surprising given that I am a 180 lb. guy with a decent build and a fairly healthy body. Cluster headaches are nuts - I would rather break my wrist or nose again over and over than deal with those damn things!
