Hey there everybody....been gone a bit but I'm back.....and this last cycle I started taking the Verapamil my Neuro prescribed and I packed on 20 extra lbs in just 3 months!!!!! I hadn't been able to work out as much because of it being a trigger....BUT.....This is the heaviest I've been in years...I'm trying to taper off the Verap now....but finding it difficult to get completely off...

Do any of you experience unusual weight gain on Verapamil? And are there any good solutions out there????

Blessings,
Karen

Hi Karen! Smiley

When I was using verapamil, I gained weight. But, in my case, it was more about the combination of the medication and its side effects: my blood pressure dropped and I had problems with my digestion lot so had to eat licorice and plums to fuction normally. Thanks to those, I gained weight.Sad

In my case, verapamil didn't even work with my head, so I wasn't too happy about it Sad as you can imagine!

Since I stopped using verapamil ch is back, but weight is not, which is good... Grin

Best wishes & PFdays,

Hi Karen,
Yup, verapamil made a fatty out of me too.  (20 lbs. in a year and a half)  And the chronic constipation, and decreased libido... Yuck!  I wouldn't take it if it weren't for the clusters.  It really helps them Angry.

I'm missing the part that is "good" here...

I'd be a HUGE fatass if it would meant being CH free!

Either way, I've been on verapamil going on three years now.  I've been off of it occasionally to try different meds.  It has not affected my weight one way or the other.

Something to consider though...some folks are having success with topamax as a preventative for CH (I definately did not...).  A side effect to that med is weight loss!

Verapamil never fuckenehd with my libido (it would not dare!).
I did gain weight but mostly it was retained moisture bloating me.
I got constipated some, but worked that out with prunes and roughage.

Sandy: liquorice was a great big trigger for me. Maybe that's why the Vera did not work so well...?
