I've suffered from Cluster headaches since 1989. 5 years ago I went to Mass General Hospital and the neurosurgeon put me on Chlorpromazine. It seems to do the trick once you find the right dose, it varies(the dose)per cycle. Some tough side affects but better than the headaches. I don't see much posted in regards to this med? Steve C

tell me about the side effects. I generally choose the headaches over the nasty side effects.

The side effects are not to bad, dry mouth, dizziness, sleepiness. When a headache breaks thru you can really up the dose to knock it out and then your sleeping till the next day but it gets rid of them for a few days afterward. Once under control back to normal dose at night which increases with each breaktrhu till stopped. Oh Yeah! Do not go in the Sun ie: beach.... Steve C

It is a tranquilizer with a truckload of possible side effects. Additionally, death in several different ways has occured from this med. Looks pretty scary to me. http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic3/chlorpromazine_wcp.htm

Using Chlor. for cluster is a new one on me; has been used for migraine for a long time. Not clear from your message whether you are using to abort a attack or as a preventive med. IF you are using for the duration of a cycle as a preventive, then the side effects question is more important than using it to abort a single attack. I'd want to explore an alternative for prevention. To abort an attack, olanzapine (Zyprexa) is much safer re. side effects.
