Trex and side-effect`s

Hi there

A lot of "dangerous stuff"has been said abut trex and side-effects.

Been a cronic clusterhead for a long time and had a heartattack back in 2001.My cardio still tell me to use all the shots that i need to live a "normal "life as possible.
So i think the issue here is to find out whats right&wrong.Of course my neuro say no to the trex,but then again.Who should i/we lissen to?

Any comment on that?

I use it when I need it.
I can tell it's a 'ride' for my heart.
So I try to use it judiciously and only on the bad ones.
I normally have a 'bruised' top of skull sensation for about a day after I take it.
Even the nasal spray gives my heart a jolt.

Svenn,

I have not experienced any side effects from full dose trex injections except some slight tightness in my throat.  That normally lasts about 15 minutes or so.  That is a tough question you ask...If the cardio is telling you that you can still use it, then I would go with what he says over the neuro.  The issue of using trex in your case is based on cardiac history which is not in the realm of the neuro.  That said, if it were me, and I had some chest tightness or similar when I used it, I would think twice about doing that again.  Tough call.

I've posted several reports on the safety of Imitrex for the general population. Your situation is one of those difficult situations where predicting one individual's response is impossible--therefore, docs should take a cautious stand.

You might consider trying another aborative which does not carry this concern for you. I keep encouraging a trial of Zyprexa, 5 or 10mg. There is little published evidence about effectiveness in large groups of people--but it is sufficiently effective that it's worth a trial.

I find it aborts an attack in 20-minutes--consistently and completely. It's inexpensive compared to Imitrex and your doc can give you a sample and try it. You will know within one or two attacks whether it works for you.

I've used LOTS of Imitrex. In fact, I honestly do believe that I've used more Trex than ANYONE! I've been using it heavily since it first came out. I believe I was one of the first to get it too. The most of i've used is 8 (4 mg) shots in a 20 hour period and it helped everytime. My doctors are now telling me not to use more than 2 shots per day (since my EKG's are abnormal now). But still, If I feel like I need it, I'd rather take it then go spend an hour in the ER waiting to get drugged up with Demerol or Stadol. I compare it with a diabetic who needs insulin... They know when they need it ... so give it to them ! Why suffer in so much pain when you have something that will help ? After all these years of heavy use ... I'm still alive ... no heart attacks ... no bad side effects (yet) {Knock on wood}

I too have more imigran(imitrex ) floating round my veins than blood,  my doc said i was using too much, cut me down, now has me trying naramig(amerge?),Theory being, it reduces the need for a further injection 4 hrs later, the injection was definately starting to take its toll,  you should use it as long as you feel safe, when the effects start to worsen with each one, think about alternatives, although the relief is second to none, you gotta know when to stop, we all have our own different tollerances to drugs.Just keep your eye on the side effects, only you will know when you no longer feel comfortable using the injection.

I got my first injection the day imitrex went on the market here in SC....I would love to have all the money i have spent on it...as far as side effects, my greatest fear rite now is that I have definetly overdone it...Numb hands, PVCs like crazy...They find a vein but  I am so constricted no blood comes out when they are drawing blood....Do I still use them? Hell, yes, wish i could say no...smiles,nancyc
