Acupuncture??

Hi,

I'm the lucky recipient of a LOT of advice about c/h - from people who think they're a "whole buncha migraines..." Anyway, the latest is from my mother. She thinks I should get acupuncture treatments. I'm still researching this on the OUCH site, but it's alluding me...

Any thoughts here? I did find the following info from acupuncture.com.

Thanks!

Chris

Case #3

Male, age 58, retired computer programmer

This man originally came to be treated for cluster headaches and neck and shoulder spasms and pain, not for his hand/wrist pain...

...While we were able to deal effectively with his cluster headaches (!!!!!! - my add) and other acute symptoms such a torticollis and severe numbness, there has been no real improvement in his neck, arm, and hand pain and numbness.

(Hee hee - maybe stick pins and that headachey band thing together would work...there's a pretty picture!)

A friend of mine is an acupuncturist and has offered to stick me.
I'm going to try. Kinda-like the chicken soup theory, can't hurt.
 No expectations.
Now keep in mind that you got this case info from acupuncture.com I assume they've got to be at least somewhat biast.
Keep looking around. I'll let you know how it does me. I don't expect anything I'm just going to enjoy the free ride..

My husband has CH and did acupuncture for about a year to see if it would help.  The headaches did not go away BUT he felt there was a reduction in the frequency and severity of the headaches. Although we can't eliminate the possibility that his cycle was improving on its own, he stopped acupuncture treatments for a couple of months and things have definitely deteriorated.  He is getting ready to start going back. Best of luck to you.

Interesting...this is starting to pique my interest now - even a reduction is a move in the right direction...would really love to hear how it goes.

Thanks,

Chris

Accupuncture is given at MHNI ... BUT NOT to help stop CH or to help with the pain. It's given as a 'relaxation therapy'. They place several needles in and around your ear. It's rather painless but did nothing for me.

hi, ive suffered from CH's for about 14 years now and i have tried EVERYTHING that i can think of one of those being accupuncture and i'm  afraid to say that it nothing to help me, except lie on the bed and get poked at with needles which aren't exactly painfree!! i,ve also had reiki & reflexology and that didnt help either, sorry to put a downer on you , but you never know you could try it and it may work for you , good luck anyway.

hi chris,
the doc who first diagnosed my CH,while happily
giving me imigran and O2,also suggested acupuncture.
she inserted needles in my stellate ganglion nerve ending(kinda where the neck meets the shoulder blade)and then one about 6 inches directly below that on the shoulder blade.
for the first time in years,my neck/shoulder didn/t feel like a lump of iron, felt it maybe lessened the severity of the attacks then, but haven't found that it has stopped
my CH's

don't feel the build up on the back of my neck quite as bad though

good luck

Self inflicted acupuncture...trex needle to the leg!   ;D

If it works for you, then do it.  If you don't know if it'll work for ya, then there's only one way to find out.   ;D

Be well!
