I was just offered it again last month but I turned it down because I've already tried it with no success. Therefor, I believe it's still available in the US. Most pharmacies don't carry it though...it has to be specially ordered.

Hi, I'm new here, but noticed sansert doesn't work for you, I hope you have found something that does.
I have been using sansert for many years, I am a episodic CH sufferer. Sansert hasn't always worked for me and my neuroligist has prescribed a prednisone regiment at the same time, somehow it helps the sansert work. Both drugs together have worked for me. During this CH period (now) I am on sansert only and its working for me so far, the odd CH comes through but is manageable. Thank God! Just offering my .02 worth!

Hi Tsayswhy.  I don't know for certain the answer to your question, but I think Sansert was pulled off the U.S. market mainly because of the horrific long term side effects and the lack of demand for the drug.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

The ergot compounds are, like the triptans, 5-HT agonists. But unlike the triptans they are completely undiscriminating, constricting tiny peripheral capillaries and vessels in the heart too; with the consequent danger of very nasty side effects.

In the European community all ergot derivatives have been phased out this year. For meegraines, where they were used as abortives, the triptans are a better solution. Some clusterheads used methysergide with success as preventatives, despite the potential side effects. They are now left standing in the rain. But who does expect that politicians and bean counters know something about CH  ???

As far as I know sansert is still available in Canada, I just got a prescription filled, although it was short 10 pills, I was assured they would be available on Sept. 19 with enough to do my refill. Americans are getting it through Canadian Internet pharmacies.
The long term side effects of sansert have always been known, but sansert is not supposed to be taken long term. I think 6 months max. I have never had a CH period that lasted for 6 months. I am an episodic CH sufferer. This drug has helped me imensely, when I first starting using it many moons ago, I was suffering several kip 9-10 CH a day, everyday. This drug broke the cycle and helped. I am not trying to sell it or endorse it, just relate my personal experieances.
When I suffered a kip 9-10 CH, I would do anything to make it stop, anything. sansert helped.

I was prescribed Sansert by a neurologist for a cycle in November 2000.  Says take 1 tablet (2mg) orally 4 X daily.  This stuff worked and nothing else did, for preventative.  I stopped taking it after a few weeks to see if my cycle/episodes were over, thank God they were/Sansert worked.  Now, three years later, I have this bottle of Sansert that is almost full.  the expiration is 2/2002.  Will it still work or has the effectiveness truly expired?  Anybody knowledgeable about Sansert/medications expiring, please reply.

My pharmacist told me sansert has a shelf life of over 5 years, then they only start to loose effectivness slowly, keep them in the dark and at room temp., hang on to them, you never know!

Well, it's past the 19th of September when some of you were waiting on a "backorder" of Sansert.  What's the story?  Is it still available in the US pharmacies?  This is the only preventative I have tried that has worked and I now suffer a cycle from Hell.

I am in Canada, and have no problem getting it! It can be ordered by Americans through Canadian Internet Pharmacies, just do a search on the net for them. I live in a Province that has allot of them, and they will ship to you no problem. Bonus 1US doller = $1.25 Canadian dollers. email me direct if you need help locating a Canadian Internet Pharmacie.
While waiting why not try Imitrex?

Early on, during my episodic clusters many years ago, I was prescribed Sansert and it was a real wonder drug for me.  It was given in conjunction with Prednisone, but stopped my pain in it's tracks.  I had used it for several episodes, but about the third time that I used it, I had some nasty side effects.  Numbness and pain in my right hand, rendering it useless.  When checked by my dr., he could get no pulse in that arm and refered me to a cardiologist for a doppler of both arms. Upon completion of these tests the cardiologist told me to "never" take another Sansert.  I, too had heard since that it had been taken off the market.

I don't know the relationship between Sansert and many of the other meds that we are administered, but I've not had a problem with any of them until now.  I am presently on Cafergot and am having some major edema in both feet and am beginning a new thread about this if I cannot find any answers that I am looking for in any of the other threads.
