oxygen side effects?

Hello all, I just started using O2 a few days ago (my poor dog is still freaked by the mask..lol) and am having great success. One question... This afternoon I was extremely light-headed after 2 attacks and treatment with O2. But, I'm also tapering off lithium (off completely the last 2 days). Has anyone been light-headed after an O2 treatment? Thanks, Chris

Great, Chris, that oxygen is helping you, lightheadedness is a small price to pay. Are you getting light-headed as from hyperventilation? If so, that could be the cause. Try breathing the oxygen at a normal breathing rate, at least towards the end of the session. If you breathe too hard, the carbon dioxide in the blood drops too low and you feel kind of dizzy. Oh yea, I'm not compaining AT ALL...this stuff is marvelous. I haven't had an imitrex shot in 2 days... You know how it is, trying anything new, I'm hyper-alert to anything "off." And, I WAS gulping it down. I just felt one coming on this AM and I sat quietly and breathed normally. No light-headedness. Thanks! Chris

Good point Ueli and another satisfied customer. I had the same problem when I first started using o2. It's very hard to stay calm and breath normal during an attack but it can be done. You just gotta tell yourself relief is on the way. Jim

No doubt Mark. I am in the midst of getting my O2 prescribed...I was hoping to get it today, but the doc has to do "more" paperwork and send it down the hall back to the insurance folks. Hopefully tomorrow... Chris

When I am awakened with the beast stabbing his blade through the back of my right eye oxygen is always my first weapon of choice. Less side effects than all the other meds by far. I keep a H tank by my bed that wins 90% of my battles. Sometimes I breath all I can get, pressing on the bag as I inhale, at the point of light headedness is when the beast tucks his tail. Is that safe ?Dont Know. Does It work? DANG SKIPPY
