I was diagnosed 12 years ago by a Nuerolgist as suffering from chronic cluster headaches, having all the classic symptoms. After trying all the known treatments with very limited success, I hesitantly accepted a friend's recommendation to try a Atlas Orthogonist. I am amazed at the relief I am experiencing after one month and only two treatment. I have gone from 5-6 clusters/day which lasted from 30-120 minutes down to 3-4 clusters/week lasting less than 25 minutes each. I am very optomistic that this relief will continue or get even better. An Atlas Orthogonist is a recent specialty in Chiropractic medicine, and is not your typical Chiropractor. The treatment he has used is completely painless! He is located in Hohokus, NJ if anyone is interested in more information, let me know. I truly wish I had known about this alot sooner. Bob Bogart River Vale, NJ

I occasionally go to a chiropractor for neck problems, and I think it helps me. There has been lots of discussion on this board whether or not it helps with clusters. One problem with finding a good treatment is that episodic cluster headachces tend to diminish and go away after a time regardless of what anyone does. This makes it easy to conclude that something helps, when in fact it was time that healed. But if you think it helps you and only took 2 treatments, great. Keep us posted.

The theory is based on the alignment of the Atlas bone, which is at the very top of the spine, and is the bone on which the skull rests. Orthogonal means "right angle", and the belief is that the Atlas bone needs to be correctly aligned. When the Atlas bone is not aligned properly it has the potential to put undue pressure on b arteries/veins and nerves, all of which pass through the Atlas bone. Misalignment is due to many factors (accident, stress, etc.) The treatment consists of moving the Atlas bone back into alignment. This is accomplished by using a probe attached to a machine which transmits an energy pulse to re-align the bone. The probe does not move, only passes the energy through. This sounds weird but will make sense to pool players. If there are two pool balls touching each other and the cue ball strikes one of them the center ball will not move, but the end ball will be moved. The machine is like the cue ball with the energy, the probe is like the center ball which doesn't move, and the Atlas bone is like the end ball which is moved back into alignment. The whole process take less than a second, and is completely painless. Multiple x-rays are taken before the procedure, to determine the extent of mis-alignment, and to calculate the required energy to make the adjustment. Always a sceptic, I'm not sure this is a cure, but it has helped tremendously. My clusters have been consistently most severe between March and October, and here it is only August and they are almost gone.
