anaesthetics & clusters

Hi... I'm having a surgery done thursday and I was wondering if any of you know if a general anaesthetic will affect CH in any way?
I'm going through this CH hell right now and don't expect it to be over before sometime next week.
I use oxygen for attacks - very effective.

I live in Denmark - I'm female and i've suffered from CH since I was 17 yo - now I'm 44. I'm a periodic sufferer.
I'm new to the messageboard but I dicovered this site last time I had a 3 weeks cycle - oktober 2001.

The question you ask has been discussed here before - in December 2002 or January 2003 - if you check the search you should find it.
It seems that some are affected by anaesthetic, and others are not. BUT if you are worried about this, please talk to your anaesthetist prior to the operation. There are anaesthetics that can be used which will not impact as severely on the CHer as others.
Mopar's anaesthetic experience was not a good one and it was from his anaesthetist that I learned there are different types of anaesthetic drugs they can use.
However when I asked the same question, most people said that they had no probs.

I was put under general anesthesia when I had my 4 wisdom teeth removed. That was about 3 weeks before this current episode started. The thought accured to me at the time that my headaches were the result of an infection from the surgery. but they were'nt. this is about the time of year they accure, so I did'nt think it had anything to do with it. But it is interesting though. It might have triggered it. They usually don't come on until september, but it's close enough. I would at least ask them about it.

for years thought it was a tooth to, had so many dental surgeries that my jaw couldn't get numb of the anesthetic anymore, had to endure an extraction with almost no anesthetic 
turned out to be something different...
have had general anethetic for a knee surgery, that triggered an attack when I went back home, but just that one..?

Thank you all... I'm in the middle of one of my 3 weeks episodes and I'm scared that the surgery (it isn't surgery for CH - I know that doesn't help) will trigger attacks - or make me a chronic - God forbid that!
I also fear that my blood pressure will go up if I have an attack right after the surgery - there is a risk of bleeding anyway and a high blood pressure will make the risk higher.

i thought my HA's were due to dental pain,i was knocked out with ketamine,came round from it and was in the middle of a badHA.personal experience using ketamine as a recreational drug(i know its not big or clever,and i haven't done it for 2 years) is that it has absolutely no effect on clusters

 I have been through the same worry and drama.
I had major spinal surgery a year ago and was soooo afraid I would awaken into cluster mode - I didnt need it on top of the other chronic pain, but I got through it!
I have CH cycles twise a year - for 3 months each.
ANd IT DID NOT HIT ME!

IMHO - Check it out with your anaesthetist all the same, and play it safe - ask for the drug that is less likely to cause probs and make sure everyone knows you suffer from Clusters.

The surgery went well and I'm home.
I called the hospital in advance and told them about my CH. Fortunately the nurse I talked to knew what CH was so I didn't even have to explain as I usually do. She said it was not going to be a problem - they would have O2 ready for me if needed.
I had an attack 2 hours after surgery - and they brought me the O2 and one of those nose-tubes. On my request they hurried to get a mask and the attack was soon aborted.

My personal feeling about Cluster and general anaesthetics is of no good for nobody.
Think we clusterheads should have that in mind at all times no matter how "hopeless"the situation is.
Have seen some clusterheads that has been addicted because of wrong meds,and believe me its not good to see
However you say that oxygene is effective and thats a GOOD sign
I`ll take the chanse to add the coctail that i`m using.It sure helps me a lot
Verapamil Retard 120mgX5-7/daily during cycle 3 weeks after last hit tapering down with 1 verap every 3/4 days until you are on 1 a day.1 a day for another 2 weeks you can decide to quit the verap or take 1 a day.Oxygene alone at 10ltm for 15 minutes or combined with imitrex-shots does miracles.The shots should start working in 6-9minutes.a few seconds after that you are almost painfree
Prednisolone in high doze for 10 days 80mg
then over a 3 weeks periode step down like 70-60-50-40-30-20-10-5mg every 3/4 day
This work fine for me

I had surgery on my gums many years ago while in cycle and it didnt have any effect on it whatsoever!
