Thyroid survey

You know this is interesting to me....as my cluster cycles began about a year after being diagnosed with Graves disease.....My endocronologist explained it to me this way.......I must have been a little hypo-thyroid most of my life until my body just went berzerk and kikked into high gear with hyper-thyroidism.....They had to kill my thyroid with chemo and then whtch it carefully.....as my thydoid input went down and take the proper amount....which gradually goes up every year or so......NOW....this is the funny part.....last yeaqr my thydoid RX was upped to 150 mg from 125......and guess what? I had one year cluster headache free....after 24 years....hmmmmm.....this year I had a shorter cycle....probably due to getting on Verapamil (yuck!!!!).....but I wonder if I went again and had my thyroid checked if it would be ready to be upped again.....hmmmmm....interesting.....

Also....I know many where the thyroid tests just weren't very reliable....Here is a test a friend told me about....( they just got back from a natural and chemichal "resort" for cancer patients where they taught them nutritian etc......They told them to put a quarter sized drop of iodine on their forearm.....right about where the elbow bends...where you might get an IV.....and watch how quickly the color dissappears.....It should last for 12 hours or so if you have proper thyroid function....however if it goes in a few short hours....you might possibly really need to get on some thyroid.....interesting huh?

I think I'll try it....and let you know what I find out....

Blessings to y'all

Hi Karen,
the thyroid needs iodine, so that would explain why the iodine would be absorbed so quickly in a person with a bum thyroid.     Undecided

Have you ever heard of a goiter? My grandmother had one; a huge lump in her throat.  I remember from a toxicology class I took the prof. explaining that goiters come from a lack of iodine in the diet.  I'm not sure if the goiter is really the thyroid swelled up, or something growing on the thyroid - yuck. Tongue

I, too, have noticed a reduction in the severity of my HA since I was diagnosed and medicated for hypothyroid.  This weekend, I upped my dose of Verapamil and that cut the severity down right away.  I go the doc this Thurs. and I'll bet ya that my synthroid dose needs to be upped, as well!  Will advise.
But, we're back to one of our top suspects - the thyroid.

Yeah....I know....we just don't know....I had a goiter....big ole fat neck...which went down when they killed it with Chemo.....and I should get re-checked at least once a year....though I know people that get checked every 6 month....My old Dr wanted to keep me at that.....I need to go again to get it re-checked....It could be the reason for my lethargy and weight gain....and all around exhaustion.....axcept thats what the Cluster headaches seem to do.....I get fit....on a regular exercise program....loose some weight....feel pretty good...and wham! the Clusters hit and I have to shut down....exercise is a big trigger for me....so then I get so depressed not to be able to keep with my program and I gain weight and feel like doo doo....

Oh well....God is good anyway,
