I've had CH for 18 years now, and feel very lucky compared to some of you, my doc has me on Verilyn PM 200mg twice a day, and Emitrex injections and 50mg pills as needed, the Verilyn PM seems to work fine by its self with a trex pill once in a while before bed if i have a shadow.

Anyway, I didn't mean to send that I wasn't finished. My question is, I love to party and I love to do schrooms. can I do schrooms just for the fun of it during my cycle, and can i do them just like i normally do.

it might be best to go to a schroom site to discuss the illegal use of mushrooms.

Maybe if you had actually read the "tons of talk about shrooms on here", you'd understand what Bob was talking about. Maybe you'd understand that if you had indeed been doing shrooms all along, and they were going to do anything for your clusters, they would have done it already, and you wouldn't be in a cycle now. Maybe if you were ready to take some advise, you'd have read where shrooms are usually taken when you are not using other meds.......
Course, that's just my opinion.

WELL, lots of maybes in that paragraph. Maybe your right, I did read a lot of stuff about schrooms, but I Must not have read enough, so I'll do the research on my own, and you can Hmmmmmmmm blow me.
It sure seams like there's a lot of dick heads on this site but maybe it's because your heads are pounding-whatever.
I actully thought someone might say something like this, Welcome Norm sorry you have to deal with the beast, as far as your question goes, from what I understand you shouldn't take schrooms while on meds, you might want to reserch it further. best of luck, Bob or Dom or whoever

Well. Norm, welcome to CH.com. Now you have an idea what things can be like around here sometimes.
No one likes to promote shrooms here just for fun. Those who recommend it, recommend it for medicinal use only. There are good reasons for this, beyond being judgmental or authoriarian or just being a dickhead about it. In many cases, shrooms are effective at dosage levels well below recreational doses.
Will they work on clusters if you take them for fun? Probably. But some of the medications you mention may interfere...partiicularly the Imitrex. I don't know what Verilyn PM is. If opioids are part of Verilyn, they may also interfere. A popular CH preventative that apparently doesn't interfere with hallucinogen treatment is Verapamil. Oxygen is the best abortive med, and it does not interfere with hallucinogen treatment. Go to www.clusterbusters.com for more info.
And domm raises a good point...if you take shrooms often, you should have already noticed at least a reduction in the frequency and severity of attacks, or it could be you are one of those few shrooms do not help.
Some questions to ponder: when did your current cycle start? When was the last time you used shrooms (or other indole-ring hallucinogen, i.e. LSD)? How does this cycle compare to those you experienced before you ever took shrooms?
Psilocybin is not to be taken lightly. It is safer than many prescrition drugs in many ways, but it does have risks.
Not sure what BobG meant. Possessing/using shrooms for any reason is illegal in most places, and we talk about it here all the time.

Ueli, Thanks man for the links I'll check them out when I get a chance, and Tommy, I like you, I don't do schrooms all the time, maybe a couple times a year when they come to town and it's just for fun. thanks for all the info but I think I'll just stay away from them until I'm healthy again.
I just got finished with an 8 and wow that sucked, I'm afraid to take the injections, because it really tightens up my chest and it freaks me out! but when I do take a shot my HA is gone in like 4 min.

I was wondering what type of reception you had coming with your opening post.
1. You probably deserved what you got...at least some of it. Your question, as phrased, was more suitable at a forum such as alt.drugs.hard. No offense, just commenting on your phrasiology.
2. Since you have clusters you're at a better forum for a qualified answer here, regarding the connections between shrooms, verilyn and clusters.
3. Although we all use shrooms for the same reason..(to feel better), discussions involving their use as a "recreational drug" are and should be frowned upon here. There is serious work being done with shrooms in an attempt to find relief for what is, as you know, a seriously painful condition.
4. Verilyn PM is the same drug as verapamil with a few different fillers and in gel form. Reports are mixed as to whether or not it will block the effects of the shrooms on a cluster cycle. Even if it doesn't block the hallucinogenic properties of the shrooms, it could block the positive effects it has on the clusters themselves. We still aren't sure if they are related.
5. If you haven't used shrooms in months...(4,5,6?) it could be that any positive effect they did have, if any, has worn off, so to speak. Think back to the last time you "shroomed" and how long after that time did your next cycle begin. If you've been on verilyn or other medications when you've used shrooms in the past, that could be why you haven't noticed an improvement in your cycles. Lots of variables.
6. Psilocybin treatments appear to work better as a preventative than an cycle abortive although in both instances, it is considerably more effective than what's available at your doctor's office....in most cases.

Thank you Ueli, for lending a little dignity and worth to the discussion, although it seemed to go right over their heads.
I'd like to ask my neuro to look at this site, just to see the pain and remedies we all attempt, but I cannot do that, due to the profanity and rudeness expressed.
We have to read a lot of messages in order to find one that is helpful.

Clusterheads would give anything NOT to have to take meds. We have absolutely no interest in abetting some junkie's self-abuse. (This statement may sound harsh, but believe it or not, we have had people trying to deal drugs on the message board)
It has been the policy of this site from the beginning not to encourage illegal or recreational drug use. You are correct in saying there has been a lot of posts about schroom use but all of the posts here about mushroom use to fight cluster headaches contain a warning to use a very small amount, many times smaller than needed to go tripping.
If you don't like this message then that is just to fucking bad. I know you are not here to buy or sell drugs but the paragraph from the new visitors page applies to your request for approval to use illegal drugs just for recreation. Anytime someone comes here and tries to use this message board to justify his/her drug habit then I'll jump right down their throat.
