back from E.R. night of hell

Went into Emergency at level 9-10.
Given steroid, Dhe and morphine.
No relief in hour. Given more morphine.
Walked out disatisfied and wide awake at level 6 Cry.

Anyway, given new drug Frova, an oral triptan that is suposed to last longer. Can not start it until after this evening, as had Imitrex injections last night. Has to be 24 hours apart. It sounds promising, also suposed to help with light and noise sensitivity.

I will keep anyone posted who is interested,

First get O2 and Imitrex Injections, then find one of the many drugs that can put a stop to your daily pain. Put the fire out for now then come see us for prevenatives.

I hate that you have to go through this pain, and I know of what you speak.  I've had to make trips to the ER over the 18 years I've had CH.  Not only is it painful, you feel like an idiot trying to explain to the staff that you are in ER for a "headache".  AAAAGGGHHHH!!!

My doctor had me try Frova, and it tends to work pretty well for me.  I use it when an attack comes on during the day when I'm awake and can see and feel it coming.  The doc said it would be much easier on me than Imitrex, and it lasts a long time.  He was right.  The only drawback is that it's taken orally, and it takes a while to start working (30-45 minutes).  The Imitrex injections work in only a few minutes, and time is of the essence, especially when the Beast wakes you at night.  My doctor was also emphatic about using only one triptan every 24 hours.  I've had to bend the rules sometimes when I have multiple attacks during a day.  It's hard on your system no matter what.  Hope the Frova works for you too.

If you haven't already, check out the e-mail threads on mushroom treatment.  I'm getting good results and avoiding the ER.

About the Frova, the dr, put me on one a day for a month, not when an attack starts , just one a day. Does that make any sense to you? I am just freaking out about what happens when an attack comes and theres no action for me to take except oxygen, which is at best 50/50.

Thanks

Sorry 'bout ur ER trip,  but don't get your hopes up too high on the Frova.   Although it does seems to "last longer", it takes way to long to take effect.  Nice thing I noticed though, it seemed like it took awhile before I got another one.  Was able to use them as a preventive while my "free supply" lasted.   Way too much $$$$ to pay for as a preventative though.

Resti,

Your doctor may know something we don't, but I would check with him again or go get a second opinion on the daily dose of Frova.  Ask him if you are understanding the dosage the way he intended, and tell him you're concerned you have no recourse to fight acute attacks.

My doctor mentioned that I might want to use Frova occasionally as a preventative when I know I will have no margin for error in my day, such as when I need to give an important presentation at work.  But it doesn't sound like a great idea to take as much as you've been prescribed.  That's just a common sense assessment.  Get a good logical reason to take that many meds--that's got to be hard on your body.  Contact your doctor again, and hold his feet to the fire.

Good luck,

My dr had me try Frova.  It only lasted for a couple of hours and then the pain set back in.  I was told to take them as an abortive not a preventative.  Once the ha starts, take the pill, wait for results.  Don't take another for 8 hours latter.

My Neuro told me today that Frova will last up to 24 hours in your system. It supposedly has a time release to it.
