Sansert users--info from Dr. Diamond

Dr. Seymour Diamond has written a two-page editorial in the journal, HEADACH & PAIN, (June, 2003), objecting to the withdrawal of Sansert from the market. He writes of his general appreciation for this med and especially of its benefit for chronic CH. He summarizes correspondence with Novartis in which it's clear they don't intend to market in the U.S and, they wrote to Diamond, "Altough Novartis does distribute a different formulation of Sansert in other countries, it cannot be imported for distribution in the United States." Even the intervention of the neurologic division of the FDA and its Center for Drug Evaluation and Research has failed to move Novartis and so, while Diamond is encouraging physicians to write to Novartis to protest, it is not a good picture. Diamond notes that there are a handful of legal cases involving claims arising from side effects of using Sansert. He does not, however, conclude this is motivating the withdrawal. Who knows?
