Anyone ever been on that for CH??? I've been prescribed 750mg of it and its an antisteroidal anti inflammatory drug according to the info that came with it. I've been calling my NEW doc (GP) for the past 3 days to get on something to help my headaches....last week he was on vacation and the oncall doc prescibed my Staydol....Finally he calle dme back today. I have been having a very hard time with the CH's and I don't want to keep taking the staydol because #1 it's very addictive and #2 it really doesn't help that much. My hubby just brought the new med home and I haven't had to take it YET....just curious if anyone has ever been on it. Also I don't understand why he would put me on an anti imflamattory and anti steroidal drug for CH's??? Any imput would be great!

Tara Ann, I just finnished a prednisone-taper. High doses up front and gradually less until weened off of it a few weeks later. Prednisone (a steroid) reduces swelling. My neuro told me it reduces swelling in the brain as well. I do not understand what it does or what the pain we feel is, but after a few days on the steroids I was almost (but not quite) PF for weeks. The only HA's I'd get were low kips (2-5's). As soon as I stopped the pred. the CH was back within days (k6-9's). I don't know why the nabumetone, I know it is not a steroid, but still an 'anti-inflamitory'. Maybe your doc thinks it will do the same as the prednisone. I don't know what it's action on CH is, but with my Prednisone it took a few days for it to have ANY effect. (3 days I believe). Bummer is that when it's over, the CH comes back. MAKE SURE your doctor puts you on a preventative before you finnish the course of nabumetone. Give it another try. Not all meds work all the time. Example. O2 only aborts 2/3 of my HA's. The other 1/3 of the time it does nothing. Migranal (nasal) takes the pain of high kips (7-10) away in about 10 minutes, 50% of the time I use it. The other 50% of the time I use it it does nothing. Just make sure you WRITE down everything you do/try so you can accurately tell your doctor. This is very important. If something does not help you, give it another chance. If still not, TELL YOUR DOCTOR. Tell him you have heard 02 works wonders (it does). Just DON'T give in to the F'n beast. You will find your 'cocktail' and life will be good again. JUST HANG IN THERE. Vent here if you have to, that is what this place is about. Take it out on us. We have all been there. Remember, you are not in this alone anymore, we are all pulling for you. I hope your PF days are here soon! Darren

Tarann=== I believe the 'anit-inflammatory' approach is used to keep hold of expanding blood vessels particularly the one in our heads that triples in size and presses on the Trigeminal nerve during an attack. The anti-inflammatory works also to keep general swelling down--as most of uscan't drink b/c alcohol swells the brain and triggers attack. Can't say I've heard of that drug either but here is a link to everything know about it: http://rxlist.com/cgi/generic/nabume_cp.htm

Thanks for the info...and the link...I read a bunch on it. I am taking it twice a day then monday I'm gonna call the doc and print some or the stuff on this MB and OUCH for him. He's a really great/easy going doc. So I think if I come in with some info he will be really helpful. Right now he is going on the notes from the nuerologist from over a year ago (a time in my life that is very foggy) so I am no help as to what helped back then. ALso back then I was on a bunch of other meds that didn't react well with most of the suggested meds for CH's and HA's in general. NOw I'm only on what his office has prescribed me this and last week. I think I'm gonna ask to try the Imitrex (I do remember the nuero really wished he could put me on that last year) and prednisone (hubby was telling me today that it helped me some last year when I was on it) Well thanks again. And I hope you are all having a great and painfree friday/4th!

NSAID,s are generally ineffective for treatment of C/H. From OUCH.....Opiates, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and combination analgesics have no role in the acute management of CH. Sorry Lee
