How much is to much

I am going through a raelly bad cycle right now and the hits are starting to come around 5 and even 6 times a day. Till now I have never taken more then 2 meds of Imitrex in a 24 hour period. I mean like 1 injection and 1 pill or 2 injections, or any combo of pil, spray and injection. But that was then. Today Ive taken 2 injections, 1 spray and 1 pill. Can I take that much for a week or are there some nasty side effects I dont know about? Im 182cm (around 6ft) and 70kg.

I have seen one or two medical journal articles which said that using more than "normal" amounts of Imitrex did not cause problems.

The assumptionis that this will be for a short time, given the nature of clusters.

Hope you are using some form of preventive medication and not depending exclusively on abortives. This is both less expensive and more comfortable.

No Unfortunatly no preventitive this time Sad. Tried Prednisone for the second time last cycle, and again to no success. This cycle I've been traveling and am in a foreign country (New Zealand) and was more concerned about getting abotives then anything else. I figure I must be close to my peak now as they have never been this fasy and furious before, so I'm not sure what my options would be.

Are you using the imitrex tip? under the bitton on the left side of the screen. You can cut your imitrex use by a half to 2-thirds saving money and med.

Sigh, I hate to admit it, but I am a real sissy when it comes to needles. With my wife to inject me I would do that, but right now as I am alone I just use the whole dose.
On a brighter note, I have soooo many injections at the moment, running out and the cost is not the issue. (New Zealand seems to be the place to be for cluster meds. CHEAP !).
What I am essentially asking is how much Imitrex is to much? One injection is 6mg (feel free to correct me if I am wrong) and the pill is 100mg(sumatriptan) the spray I cant remember the dose. What does that mean dose wise? Is the 6mg from the injection the same dose as the pil or spray? And if so how many doses in a day is to much. I have worked my way through some of the HA's without aborting cos I have been worried about taking to much.

I think the 50 mg pill and the 20 mg nasal spray and the 6mg statdoses are all equal. Some say you should only take 12mg aday of the statdose or vials thats why like bob G said when you cut it into 3mg you can use it for 4 CH.badfly i do this all the time because taking to much might give you a heart attack and get a good check from your doctor

I am no doctor, but I can pass along to you what my doctor told me... Never take more than 2 doses (1 dose=50mg tab, 20mg spray, or 6 mg injection) in a 24 hour period.

It is soooo hard not to do that when we get more than 2 attacks a day, but the consequences may be too great to risk. JMO (and my doctors).

Your best bet as always is just give your doctor a call and have him give you the ok.

Just my 2 cents

Oh, and btw, I am going to start going to New Zealand for meds!!! I like cheap Smiley

Depends on the person how much you can handle. Some people get really sick from the first injection already. I've used up to 10 injections a day for months without any problems. But....make sure you get regular (blood pressure etc.) checks by doctor and keep a sharp eye on yourself.

badfly, can you not get the trex in vials?  It is so much easier to split the dose, especially when you're well into the pain.....no thinking required.  I only use 2mg, each vial split into thirds, that way, one dose takes care of three ch's.

I understand your hesitancy about needles......my solution to that was, if you wait until it hurts bad enough, you don't give a flying **** about the needle.  It feels damn good going in at that point.

I've used upwards of 10 shots in a day, but doing them in thirds, I'm not much over the limit of what they say is enough.

No vials in NZ Rox sorri. All Auto-injectors.
Hey badfly, Mopar's done ten in a 24 hour period. And survived. I think it all depends on your own reactions to it. If it has never given you probs, just relief, you're probably safe to take more than recommended, but if it knocks you around anyway, be cautious. IMHO.
Hoping this ends soon for you
