got a question...

Hi guys...

Just simple question some of you may answer for me.

I started Verapamil almost two weeks ago, and haven't noticed a significant change in ha patterns. Mabey only a little less severe (but not much).

How long does it take for verapamil to work? Should I give it a couple more weeks or what?

Thanks much!

Kim

You may have to wait several weeks before making a judgment of effectiveness.

And--changing doses is common--upward.

As with many of the meds used for cluster, there is no absolute formula which works for everyone. Even Imitex has doesn't work for ca. 10% of users.

It is one of the greatest frustrations with clusters: having to try, adjust, try again; try something different.

oh, my bad...

i probaby should mention that zolmatriptan works wonders for my attacks. kills the pain to almost nothing, but i am looking for a preventative that works for me and verapamil was my first choice to start. 120mgX1 day just does not seem to make things better. i have been getting k-10 every second or third day, with shadows and low grade kip inbetween.

sincerely in denial...hope 2 still find my cure,

Hi Kim.  Usually in about a week you should notice the benefits of verapamil.  120mg per day is very low for a clusterhead.  In fact, I don't know of any clusterhead who has reported success with 120mg.  Since you say that CH has been 'a little less severe' I'll bet that if you upped the verapamil, you will notice an improvement.  Consult your doc.  I'm currently at 360mg and it's very effective for me.  I haven't had a breakthru CH in over 2 months.
Good luck

I was up over 300 mg of verap and it didn't touch mine.
Went several weeks.

But everyone is different....

Prednasone and sansert are the only drugs that keep mine away for any length of time.  Other meds will sometimes work for a bit, but then stop.

Geez 120mg X 1 a day isn't anywhere near enough!  I've been upwards 960mg + before it helped me.

so u guys....

what do you find that all these mg of verapamil is doing to your heart? i realize that it lowers blood pressure, but holy shit 960mg newheadplz? wow.

been on verap about 3 weeks now...so far, every third day is still a k-10 in the making, but i have not waited to take the zomig...pop it at 1st inkling...so, in the last week, i have been damn near pain free...

i am going to stay on verap 120 mg until i see doc next week. i am sure she will probably up dosage as long as my blood pressure is all good.

still searching for our cure..

Hi there

This is my coctail

Verapamil Retard 120mgX5-7/daily during cycle 3 weeks after last hit tapering down with 1 verap every 3/4 days until you are on 1 a day.1 a day for another 2 weeks you can decide to quit the verap or take 1 a day.Oxygene alone at 10ltm for 15 minutes or combined with imitrex-shots does miracles. The shots should start working in 6-9minutes.a few seconds after that you are almost painfree
Prednisolone in high doze for 10 days 80mg
then over a 3 weeks periode step down like 70-60-50-40-30-20-10-5mg every 3/4 day
This work fine for me

The very best from Svenn
