Hi everyone, New to the site... I have been prescribed pred taper.1 wk 60mgs/then today 50/then 40... Working great so far but I'm concerned about the taper part now?? Also have been hearing you guys talking about the "nasty" side effects. So far only trouble sleeping. I havent had a ch in 1 wk and if not for your comments, i would think I'd found the miracle cure. Please give me your experiences, I'm terrified. Gene

Stop with the "terrified"; some folks run up the warning flags too quickly. When used for the brief periods, as you outlined, the potential for side effects is very low. Keep in mind that this med may abort your clusters but they tend to come back when the pred is stopped. So, your doc should be starting one of the preventive meds at the same time you are taking the pred. If this has not been suggested by your doc, ask--now.

Gene I've taken pred many times... I'm on a 10 day - 40 mg and then taper right now. The only problem I have had is a bit of tiredness, hunger, and after 6 weeks on 40 mg I started to break out one time. It's not a drug to take every day, but for a few weeks it can do the trick. The hard part is when the taper ends. I'm chronic and when I get down to about 20 mg the shadows start and then the clusters aren't far behind. Mark

Hi there This is my coctail Verapamil Retard 120mgX5-7/daily during cycle 3 weeks after last hit tapering down with 1 verap every 3/4 days until you are on 1 a day.1 a day for another 2 weeks you can decide to quit the verap or take 1 a day.Oxygene alone at 10ltm for 15 minutes or combined with imitrex-shots does miracles. The shots should start working in 6-9minutes.a few seconds after that you are almost painfree Prednisolone in high doze for 10 days 80mg then over a 3 weeks periode step down like 70-60-50-40-30-20-10-5mg every 3/4 day This work fine for me The very best from Svenn

Hi Gene, I have taken Prednisone for many years now during cycles. I have never been as high as 60mg though. Sleeping and being wound up all the time are the only side effects that I had. It sounds like you are being very aggressive as far as tapering off. The longer I'm on it, (usually 4 months), the harder it is to get off. I have to use the 10mg tablets and drop by 5mg for a few days, then drop 5 more, etc until I'm off. I generally feel like crap each time I step down. But the alternative is definitely worse! Anything is better than the CH!
