Getting ready to start my first batch of mushrooms, hopefully someone can tell me how many seringes I need to start. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Bob

I would suggest getting several. A couple different strains and divide up your jars among them. One bad syringe will set you back at least a few weeks. Equadors and B+ are two easier strains to grow for 1st timers. If one syringe is bad (it does happen) you'll still end up with half a batch, more than enough. The reason I'd order a few (or more) is that there has been a push to get some of the sites shut down and its getting more difficult to get syringes and the prices are going up. If the treatment works well for you.....you don't want to have a problem getting more spores later. They will last quite a while in the fridge. I've used some that I had for 18 months. Also, if it works for you, the next step would be to learn to make spore prints of your own. Cuts the costs to just the substrate and ends availability problems in the future. Good luck P.Floyd

Yes, definitely need more than one syringe just in case one is no good. Bob P, nice photos but re: the last one, you should know that harvesting the shrooms before their veils tear increases the potency dramatically. Or, more correctly, once the veil tears, the potency starts to decline. By the time the heads have reached horizontal, and the spores start to drop, potency will be only around 50 percent or less of what it was before the veil tore.

| I would really love to hear more about this. If they are harvested early, this would make the whole batch go further. Since my farming experience ended in a collection of black mold......I definitely have the time to wait for an answer....... Tracey

Yeah, I know that. I was just being greedy, trying to let them get as big as possible and still catch them just before the veils ripped. Thing is, they grow really fast at that stage. Seems like one minute they're closed and the next they're wide open.

Psilocybes produce psilocybin and psilocybin right up until the time they start to produce spores, at which time all psilocybin/psilocin production stops dead. Spores normally start developing just before the veil tears and the cap starts to flatten out. The thing is, a specimen that might weigh ten grams just before the spores start developing may eventually weigh fifteen or more grams by the time it stops growing and the cap has flattened out completely. Therefore in order to maximize psilocybin concentration per gram, it makes sense to harvest them just before spore production begins. As a side benefit, shrooms with no spores taste better than shrooms with spores (although they still won't win any culinary awards). Bob correctly points out that harvesting at the right time is easier said than done. At that stage of growth, the darn things are growing so fast you can almost see them getting bigger as you watch. You check them in the morning and they look great. You get back from work and they are fully open with spores everywhere. It is also a good idea to let a few open up all the way and take some spore prints so you can be self-sufficient forever -- no need to buy more syringes if you can make your own, right? pinky

Unless one is prepared to check your shrooms every couple of hours, 24/7, it's really not worth it because, as you observed, the veils can start to tear quickly and once they do the things open very fast. The mass does increase, but at a loss of potency. That's the trade-off most commercial growers make. But why settle for "commercial grade" if one is growing for medicinal purposes? Harvesting them when they are fully developed, with a clear head-and-veil structure, is IMO the way to go. One can check them once, maybe twice a day, and excise the ones that are ready with an exacto. BTW, I think when one does this, the cakes are productive for a longer period. End result is that you can, if you do it right, wind up with a pretty decent harvest of far more potent shrooms. Just a couple of nice solid cakes ought to provide more than enough for a year or more of medicinal treatment for CHs. Sad that fanaticus was shut down by the DEA. They had loads of info on this issue up on their site, which is one of the places I got the info.

I have the PF tech as a zip file if you know how to load it to the board? Can e-mail it too. We use straw and cakes both. Also exploring liqui-culture for mycelium extract.

If I don't want to take the time to grow the shrooms myself, is there a safe place to purchase these? Will try just about anything to get rid of these clusters!

There is a couple of safe places that I am aware of. Amsterdam The British Virgin Islands THis is the route I take as I am not willing to go to jail but also not willing to give up my "cure". Sure, It will cost you a plane ticket and a couple days lodging BUT $1000.00 for relief compared to 10 years in prison and NO relief seems worth it to me. Just my 2c

Soo neetnut will do just about anything to get rid of these clusters except taking the time to grow shrooms. Been listening to too much Meatloaf buddy? I would do anything for clusters but I won't grow those. Hmmm. You can always pick the wild varieties and risk a slow and agonising death from poisoning. Maybe better rethink this one... Flash - very tongue in cheek
