Well I think the beast has come back for another summer in Arizona.I am begining to think that the Heat may be my trigger. Let me breifly introduce myself: CH suffer for 3 years,Period are from June to late september, about 2-3 attacks every day like clockwork. I have tried O2,Maxalt and a drug called doxepin. the O2 would help occasionally but wouldnt squash the monster.the Maxalt was 50/50 chance I could catch it before it started to implode my skull. this year I will truley be able to see if the Doxepin will work for me. I went to a Dr for the first time regarding the beast in 2002 about halfway through my cluster period.A freind of mine suffered from CH when he was younger and was given a bottle of Doxepin by his grandmother(old wives tale or cloud with silver lining? I dont know) He told me that after taking the pills his CH dissapeared forever. I called my DR out of Frustration and asked for the Doxepin.I begain taking it and the CH faded away within about 2-3 weeks with attacks becomming less severe. My Cluster period is starting again this year as I can feel the weight on my eye and right hemisphere of my Skull (and down and to the left ;D) I took my first Doxepin this moring and logged back on here.I hope that my input will help the collective of us here on the boards. Hello again. Let me thank the creator and users of this MB for being here.Without you I would have to live this hell on my own. Thanks! Kelly Arizona

Doxepin is a tricyclic antidepressant of the dibenzoxepin type. In addition to depression, doxepin has been used in the treatment of peptic ulcer disease; to treat chronic, severe neurogenic pain; and to treat pruritus in idiopathic cold pruritus. Doxepin was originally approved by the FDA in 1969. The concise action of tricyclic antidepressants is not fully understood, but it is believed that their most important effect is to enhance the actions of norepinephrine and serotonin by blocking the reuptake of various neurotransmitters at the neuronal membrane. Through water and fire. From the lowest dungeon to the highest peak, I fought the Beast. Until at last, I threw down my enemy and smote his ruin upon the mountainside.

Everything is moving smoothly.I forgot the heavy drowsyness and overall dumbfounded feeling it (doxepin) gave me.The drug has begun to soak into my system and the side effects have become less severe. It is like having ghost symptoms when the CH comes.I know when they show up but the bludgeoning pain does not surface.Kind of like a memory/ fear that was burned into my mind. Doxepin seems to be effective at this stage. I am drinking and smoking like normal mabey even heaver than normal seeing how I am recently unemployed Sometimes I feel the trigger of the alchohol and carbon monoxide and my mussels(sp?) tense up like before but again it is just fear of the memorys that seem to haunt me but no real pain (kip 0.01) I will stick arround for this C-period. Thanks again for being here. K
