I am new to this web site.  Starting getting headaches last August.  I was finally diagnosed correctly in February.  I have had no relief for the past 9 months and the neurologist tells me I am chronic.  I am currently on 360 mg verapamil and 9 mg melatonin.  Nothing much is helping.  O2 did not help and shots of imitrex don't seem to work either.  Prednisone will help but only when I'm taking 5/6 pills a day.  My average is 3/4 headaches a day lasting around an hour each.  I have an appointment for acupuncture this Tuesday.  Has anyone tried this form of treatment and what were you results?   Thanks.

IMHO acupuncture is a waste of time and money for clusters, but I'm not a doctor.

Click on the blue below and then decide for yourself.

Hi MCK. Welcome home.

Acupuncture is a very controversial topic, not only on this board, but in general. There are lots of links that we could give you, some supporting acupuncture, some saying it is nothing but snakeoil. Either way...the scientific jury is still out...it has not been proven effective but it is has not been proven ineffective either.

Clusterheads have posted that it has worked wonders for them. Clusterheads have posted that it did nothing but take their money. I suppose like every CH treatment, what works for some does not for others. Search the archives.

My bottom line is this: It MIGHT help you. It MIGHT not. I guess it depends on what kind of person you are...a half full or half empty. It's a gamble, there is no doubt,  make sure you know that before you go in. Hope can be dangerous at times, and at times, it can be all we have.  Personally, if there is even the smallest chance, the most remote glimmer, that it will stop this fucking pain, I would try it.

Please let us know what you decide and how either the meds or the acupuncture works for you.

Peace and love,
Georgia
