I was diagnosed by my doctor last march with cluster headaches. At the time he gave me Maxalt and said to take it as soon as I feel the headache coming on. That was right at the end of my cycle last year and now I am starting to get them again. I took a Maxalt earlier this week and it worked and contained my headache and it only lasted 10-15 minutes when they usually last two hours. Does anyone else use Maxalt and does it always work that well???

I usually have two kids of cluster attacks. The "moderately severe" kind, and the "Kip-10 somebody please shoot me" kind. I can usually tell within the first 5-10 minutes which it's going to be. Maxalt MLT usually will work for the "moderately severe" kind... but so does Oxygen... usually just as well. Maxalt MLT does not help the "Kip-10 somebody please shoot me" kind at all. And regular Maxalt tablets never work.

I have been on Maxalt-MLT for 2 years and have had the same experience, it works on the moderately severe but doesn't help at all with the KIP-10. Good luck with it I hope it keeps working for you.

Prior to this year Maxalt was all I used. I used 3-4 doses a day and it always worked for me. The MLT version verses normal pill never made a difference. Long term use of Maxalt even though exceeded guidlines helped me through some bad cycles. Had no major side effects. Usual time to pain reduction in severe pain mode was 30-45 minutes and for some people cluster is gone by then. Mine are of the 2 -3 hour variety. This year went to Imitrex Injections. 10 -15 minutes to some relief. I Just hate Statdose so went to vials last week. What a difference.

| It works GREAT for me. So, does it really suck? I'd say it works for some, not for others.

Works for me. In fact, any of the triptans or ergots work for me. So does O2. Guess I'm just easy.

Didn't work for me. Imitrex, Relpax and Frova seem to do the trick most of the time though. Imitrex is by dar the best though! Kris

I only use meds for the BIG ones which by the time I am well into my cycle are the only ones I get. I tried Maxalt MLT on 6 occasions after my Doc said it was the greatest new drug for CH on the market and was much cheaper than Imigran Inj, but they did zip for me and I tried to tough it out after taking it. I had to resort to using Imigran injections on a couple of occasions after more than an hour after Maxalt with no relief whatsoever from the headbanging and 10 mins later it was gone - as always with the injection. I never tried Maxalt on the less intense CH though, so they may well work for them. But I usually tough out the small ones to save money and meds. John

Regular Maxalt pills work for me! ;D Along w/ Zomig, O2 and Imitrex injections as abortives. I've never taken the MLT one so I'm not sure about that one... Mia

I swear by Macalt. It does work on a Kip 10 but ya need to take 2. Imotrex does nothing for me and neither did topomal. I keep a good stock of Maxalt at all times. I keep refilling my prescription even when I'm out of cycle. Good Luck Lisa
