Anyone ever had a Ganglion (spelling?) Block done?  This is where a needle is inserted into your facial area and the Ganglion Nerve (?) is numbed.

Any information would be great since it has been suggested by Jill's Dr.

I had lidocane stuck in the back of my neck a couple of weeks ago.  It was a nerve block of some sort.  It did not work too well and whatever good it did went away rather quickly.  I understand that one can be given using a steriod, but I have never had that.

Marty, search new AND oldarchives for nerve block as well as ganglion block.

Results seem to vary.

Depending on the way they do it, in some ops people came out with half lamed faces and the clusters came back...

Best of luck for Jill

Marty, I need my head examined (who here does not, lol).
Go to OUCH (button left), in the OUCH screen to the left hand tab on top (cluster help) click and go down the list to  library. There you will find "surgery" with lots of information.

Marty, try typing in 'spheno block'.  It's a long word that I can't, for the life of me, remember right now.  Ted had this procedure done a couple of years ago and he's still chronic, although i think it did give him a little relief at the time.
It's sphenotaline or something.  snuffleupagus...help me out here, folks.  Ted's at work right now, but I've mailed him to check this thread when he gets home.
Please say hi to Jill for me.  I think of her often.

p.s.  Spheno-palatine Ganglion Blocks  (I looked it up).  Type that into your web-browser.  It may also be in our archives from the old board here.  Ted had this done in late Dec., early Jan. 2001?  2002?  Memory's good, it's just short.

To get to the "old" archives use the SEARCH button at the top of the screen under the words clusterheadaches.com.

The Search button under the words Message Board will only get the "new" archives.

I had this done. They fill your nose with jell - like fluid, then shove sticks up your nose and make you lie there for about 15 minutes. It was the scariest thing I tried and to make things worse...it did just that. My headaches increased in frequency and intensity. I ended up in the hospital for a few days. I recently had an Occipital Nerve Block at MHNI. Thats the needle to the back of the neck. It worked, but I just had it done 10 days ago or so. Don't know how long it's going to last. Forever I hope > but you know that would be too good to be true.

Undecided Hello -
Yes, I have had a spheno-palatine ganglion block.  An anesthesiologist friend showed me how to administer it myself.  She is hot on this treatment and has treated over 400 patients this way she says. Shocked  (I suspect some of them are migraine sufferers).  I used 4% lidocaine and placed the cotton tipped swab dipped in the lidocaine under my middle nasal turbinate on the pain side.  The pain was truthfully only a shadow, but was relieved within a minute or so.  Unfortunately, it did not last as the beast visited me later that night.  I am not chronic at this point, but episodic. (current episode for one month).  I usually relieve the pain by sucking intensely on an oxygen tank with a demand valve for 5 to 30 minutes.
