I'm a 44 y.o. male who has episodic CH's typically Jan / Feb / March of each year (not the best way to ring in the new year). First diagnosed in 84. During this time my neuro has put me on all of the meds you see on this site. Interestingly, the best meds for me is what was first tried and didn't work. I currently take Welbutrin & Covera 240 daily. I have between 3 - 5 attacks each day (always 1am & 5am...the others seem to be more random). I use Imitrex Inj & O2 which is a godsend. I typically have excellent results within 15 - 20 min 95% of the time. I'm glad I found this site...I utilized the Imitrex tip (thank you) and am now able to have at least 4 shots in 24 hrs for 5 attacks, leaving one to O2 only. My dilemma is choosing which one I don't use Imitrex on. The lower does works, but self admin with insulin syringe is more painful, but well worth it!!! Anyway...I'm hoping that I'm nearing the end of my '03 cycle as my wife of only a couple of years has difficulties understanding this monster. Best of luck to all...RAJ

Sadly welcome, Raj. It seems you checked out meds etc before you posted! You should be commended. One thing, you say your wife has trouble understanding the beast. Why not let her browse this website a little, to find out what it is really like - NOT a headache, but a neurological condition. Try and make her a supporter instead of a critic. I am sure all of us women, sufferers like myself and supporters, will want to help. Painfree days and nights!

Have your wife read this letter. Thanks to Simon of OUCH-UK it was intended to be given to employers but I think it will do just fine to help your lady understand. http://www.ouch-uk.org/ch/note_colleagues.cfm

Many Thanks to all of you, especially for the UK letter, which I will most certainly print and bring home this evening. I'm down to one full-blown attack in the last couple of days (precisely 1 am). I go through the rest of the day with the vague reminder (lingering ghost) that this cycle is not yet completely over. I can't believe I didn't find this site earlier. Again...thanks to all...your support is definitely appreciated (tears come to my eyes as this is typed)...RAJ

So much for thinking I was on the tail end of my cycle. This one is lasting longer than any before and I desperatley hope that this trend doesn't continue. My insurance company rejected my Imitrex refill last night due to exceeding quantity in 90 days. My doctor is great. His office is starting the process to get this over turned (anyone out there have experience with this....do the insurance companies listen to the doctors...this is very expensive for them and I'm sure they wish I wasn't on their plan). In the mean time, the doctor told me to swing by his office to get a bag full of professional samples....If anyone is ever in need of an excellent specialist in Austin, Texas: Dr. Rajat Gupta of HA & Pain Center. He is board certified in neurology & pain management (was instructor of pain management at Johns Hopkins). Don't go to him if you are looking for narcotics...He is conservative and perscribes appropriatley which I need. I've had doctors in the past who threw the kitchen sink at me and it only makes it worse. Thanks again to all for your kind words and support My wife read the letter provided to me by BobG. Thank you. Wishing everyone PFDays.

Raj, please go to the OUCH site, to the resources' list of dictors, and put the name of your excellent doctor up there for others to find! It will be much appreciated.
