Greetings fellow headbangers. Friend of mine emailed me a copy of an article about a Dr. Sandeep Amin at Rush Presbyterian/St Jude's Med Center in Chicago who performed a proceedure on a woman who was having excruciating long-term headaches in the forehead/eye area (no specific classification). He implanted a mini-battery in her neck with a wire leading to a needle into the offending nerve. According to the patient, the instant they turned on the juice her headache disappeared, and has remained pain-free, with the only problem being the occaisional proximity to certain types of electrical equipment (such as that that causes problems for folks with pacemakers, I guess). Anywhich, I have a call in to the Dr's office requesting a return call to see if this is something that might be tried on us. Any of you guys seen this? I'll keep ya posted... We are without a doubt the toughest people on the planet for what we have to deal with every day. Keep the faith, friends... Mike

Hey Mike, The lady in the article lives about 10 miles from me. http://www.cnn.com/2003/HEALTH/02/18/zapping.headaches.ap/index.html She didn't suffer from clusters but more likely trigemial neuralgia or something similar so it may very well be showing success with the "correct" nerve. Anyone interested may want to contact the Daily Herald Newspapers and see if they'll send the actual paper. It was in our local paper a couple of weeks ago. Their website doesn't have pictures in the archives and they had some pictures & drawings of the actual implant in the paper but I don't have it anymore and I don't remember the date it ran. Call 847-427-4614 or email archives@dailyherald.com health and fitness writer...(Lori) lrackl@dailyherald.com BobW

Here are some similar things that have worked on clusters: http://www.clusterheadaches.org/library/surgery/index.htm
