Very important research...

In Turin (my home) a DNA research on the CHers has been started . This research is in collaboration with the Neuroscience Tanz Institute, Università of Toronto, Canada. They are seeking CH patients to do genetic researchs and (perhaps...next year) to lay the CH genetics characteristics on the complete human genome. This is doing also by Doc. Goadsby with the Leicester University (another one study). May be that, in the near future, we can define if our children will suffer from CH or not, to adjust the meds taken, and more far..... to find an "universal" cure for the CH. Our OUCH Italia people are "scheduled" for a blood test here in Turin, to lay out the DNA characteristics. I will update you as soon as possible Ciao friends

Thank you so much Ricardo for the wonderful news. This is very exciting. Be sure to thank OUCH Italia members for helping in this study and paving the way for the rest of us. Hopefully this will lead to some discovery and more information about us.

That's awesome, Riccardo - good for you!! You think they'll find that extra sex drive gene that Davide (or was it Sten?) insists is there?

Outstanding! It may take a while to complete this research but I think that when it is finished we will finally be able to say, I have clusters because ...... If you can get any information on this project Riccardo, please send it to me so I can post it on the OUCH Research page. And, thanks for shedding blood for the rest of us clusterheads.

Riccardo, the following was in our morning paper...is this the same study that you're involved with (only this one is migraine)? "Two Italian scientists have discovered a gene liked to migraines, which could pave the way to banishing all headaches. The research of geneticist Giorgio Casari and neurscientist, Roberto Marconi, appeared yesterday in the online journal Nature Genetics. The gene causes a malfunction of the pump which shifts sodium and potassium through cells. Mutant cells were swollen, leading to the pain, flashing lights and tingling sensation that debilitates "aura" sufferers. "The chromosome is so well researched, it will not be difficult or take long to find a therapy for it," Casari said. This study was done in Milan, Riccardo - but I'm wondering if the two studies are linked. Even though this is for migraine, it's still encouraging from a research point of view for clusterheads.

No, it's not the same and....sadly.... these are news not too correct... The gene has been identified ONLY for a particular, ultra rare kind of headache....... all the rest..... journalists.... For "OUR" research, we have to wait a minimum of a couple of years......

Rats. I found the connection to the sodium and potassium interesting though. Potassium deficiency has been discussed here before, in relation to clusterheads. And the Water Water Water treatment that Doc Jerry brought us years ago, addressed the possibility of an overabundance of salts in your systems... What do you mean 'ultra rare kind of headaches', Riccardo. Is this study I mentioned NOT about migraines?

Sorry Margi, I made a mistake (In Italy the names migraine and headaches are practically for the same diseases): The exact gene discovered is about hemiplegic familiar migraine. Is, anyway, very very rare. But yes, agree on your WWW (we have a couple of people that do this and get a high relief) sodium and potassium deficiency Ciao Marghee
