Has anyone tried acupuncture? It was suggested to me but I wanted to hear of actual instances where it has been applied and, if so, was it succesful at all?

Used it for about 5 yrs. Did not stop CH but good for immune system when I was getting worn out by the attacks. Had a CH attack during a treatment and doc was disappointed he could not alleviate the pain.

Ya know what i been having great success with accupunture for the last 2 weeks. the chinese been having great success for the last 2000 years . your smart ass ridicule isnt much appriciated personally. the scientific comunitee you so proadly boost damn neared killed me with pharmacuticals. I have had much better luck over the last five years with a hard core regieme of nutritionals. this last cycle broke thru but i am keeping it to a dull roar with only 4 attacks over 7 kip scale in 2 weeks. all i know is i was cronic for 15 years and went thru a living hell. and i say try any and all avenues you can and dont listen to people who claim the world is flat. find out for yourself you just dont know what causes CH's could be a simple as a mineral your short of. but i promiss you this your doctor wont help you in that department . anyone wanting to know what i am doing can contact me directly jonmach1@beachin.net jonmach

| I'm glad you have been pain free for the last two weeks. But that can have a dozen of reasons, from spontaneous remission to your smart ass "hard core regieme of nutritionals". But the scam artists, of every color, live off suckers who they can talk into believing in their magic. Can you explain to me the following? After 2000 years of success these Chinese doctors should be able, and not be afraid of, to prove to skeptics like me the validity of their methods. A controlled, double blind study, as it is required from the FDA for western methods, could convince many. Why hasn't such a study never been done? Out of fear of a flop?

I love these discussions. I'm happy Jon is having success, I agree it may be attributed to many factors, as is almost always the case in treatment of most conditons. But I find it amazing that we don't look further into some treatments. I'll agree that there has not been, to my knowledge, a good study of acupuncture and clusters. But for other conditions, go to Pub Med and type acupuncture in the search box. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi 8105 articles published in the National Library of Medicine. Not all are positive, many are, not all are randomized controlled studies, many are. A quick search on medscape (you have to register) finds 48 papaers published in the last 12 months. (and only 3 for clusters in the same time) It should not surprise anyone that acupuncture does not meet the rigors of western medicine. Western medicine (the AMA) decided years ago that it doesn't work, what else matter??? Personally, I tried it, it didn't help, and I despise needles. Incidentally, if anyone is going to quote from Quackwatch, do a bit more research. To learn more go to your favorite search engine and type in: +"Stephen Barrett" +court ....further research is required... Regards Doug Wright

Great post, Doug. Actually, I did just that after the post claiming accupuncture helps nothing at all. I went to Medscape and did a search on acupuncture. Apparently, as I was already aware of, it's not all quackery.

there is study after study of the validity of chinese medicine. but the powers to be in this country(ie) American medical assc. and the pharmacudical companies wont even concider looking at them ... this is a friggin money game and the ama is as dirty as it gets. I am not saying there arent some scams out there but when it comes to scams the medical industry in this country is way more on the guilty side than the nutritional and alternative health care industry. i have to go but would love to continue our discussion Jonmach
