I have seen a lot about the injectable and oral forms of Imitrex but, haven't seen anything on the nasal spray. Has anybody tried it? Did it work? Imitrex inj. work for me but, not the pills.

Yes, Sueellen, the nasal spray will sometimes abort attacks for my hubby, if he catches it early enough.

I use imitrix ns all the time. I hate shots not because they don't work but because I hate needles. I take it at the first sign of trouble and in 6-10 min. I am pain free. It comes in 5mg and 20mg. I take 5mg and if that doesn't work I take 20mg more. 9x out of 10 that will do the trick. But you can take up to 40mg at one time if needed.

Nasal spray works for me if I catch it before it gets to kip 7. Doesn't work for wake ch's and I found that coffee makes it work much better. PJB

10 Shots a day! Recommended dosage IMITREX INJECTION The maximum single recommended adult dose is 6 milligrams injected under the skin. The maximum recommended dose that may be given within 24 hours is two 6 milligram injections taken at least 1 hour apart. IMITREX TABLETS The usual adult dose is one 25-, 50-, or 100-milligram tablet taken with water or other liquid. The most you should take at one time is 100 milligrams, and the most you should take in 1 day is 200 milligrams. Doses should be spaced at least 2 hours apart. If you have liver disease, you should not take more than 50 milligrams of Imitrex Tablets at one time. IMITREX NASAL SPRAY The recommended adult dose ranges from 5 to 20 milligrams taken when the attack begins and repeated once, if necessary, 2 hours later. Doses are usually taken as a single spray in one nostril, but if a 10-milligram dose works best for you, you can take it as a 5-milligram spray in each nostril. Do not use more than 20 milligrams at a time, or take more than 40 milligrams a day. http://www.gettingwell.com/drug_info/rxdrugprofiles/drugs/IMI1205.shtml 10 standard doses of 6mg per day could be dangerous. Check the link "Imitrex tip" on a safer way the have more doses without exceeding the safe dosage. Too much Trex can kill ya so be careful.

Hi Mark C GlaxoSmithKline is afraid of the lawyers and thats why the has to set a upper limit for the dozage of the shots. I have been on different conventions here in Norway and lissen to the neuroes about this. 1 Neuro tell us 2 shots a day.The next say 4 and so on. Its seems that the neuroes does not agree of that subject. But they do agree with me that i`ve reach the limit with 10 shots a day.But that is in the worst case scenario And that is very rare thing that i need that mutch. Normal doce is between 2-4 shots a day and i`m pretty certain that this is the normal doze to most of us that choose the shots I think this was all in my answer to you my friend Svenn

Thanks Svenn, I hope the meds work for you. Having cardio problems makes this even more difficult. I understand the confusion between Dr's and the liabilty issue makes sense. Good luck, Mark

Correct me if I'm wrong, I've never takeing any Meds. for CH. Imitrex is takeing at the onset of a HA ?? along with02?? I guess these are abortives? For me I have to way the benifits of takeing these meds. Once the HA is present , Its present and any meds at that point are questionable. My HA are lasting 17 to 30 mins for the most part. Hope I not sounding off with this post. I'm trying to find out what I should be asking for with the nuro next week. Plus, My job makes it hard for me to take any meds. Wishing you PFDN David

David, Yes - Imitrex and O2 are abortives. Don't know about others but here is what I do. When I feel a CH coming on I hit the O2 first -quickly!, if after 5-10 minutes I don't get any relief or I feel it getting worse then I go for the Imitrex injection. That takes it out in about 5 minutes, sometimes even less. I have a bit of a warm rush that only lasts a few seconds after the shot but after that there is just wonderful PF relief! Hope this helps.
