Try the following Drug free methods

The following methods helped a lot to relief the pain. They are based on bringing blood to the pain nerve: - on your knees in the bath tub run room temperature water from the shower head with your head down to run from your neck down to your forehead. Better with higher water pressure - brush your hair from the back neck towards your forehead many times at the side of the pain - if you have an electric massager trace the pain on the upper side of your head top..once you find the pain that is a critical point of the nerve that needs blood circulation -other points that you can apply pressure at could be the corner between your eye and upper nose corner of the same side of pain. press with your finger as much as you can. And at your elbow but this one is hard to find you will know when you feel the point pain.. again of the same side of the ch. -when you sleep rub menthol rub (vicks or similar) on your forehead and bottom of your feet to keep good blood circulation so the beast wo'nt wake up. -sleep regularly at same hours -excercise daily I hope it will work for you too

Okay... Wait... From what I've read... Clusters are considered a type of vascular headache... Specifically, a blood vessel expanding, and pressing into a nerve. Now you're saying that we should try to increase blood flow to this blood vessel? Maybe it's just me, but I find this hard to understand why you'd think this would help. And how would using a vibrator on the top of your head have any useful benefit to a clusterhead? Isn't the majority of cluster pain located around/behind the eye, temple, forehead? And it would seem the vibration would be quite annoying after a few seconds. Sleep regularly?????? Have you ever had a cluster? Do you even know what a cluster is? If a clusterhead is lucky enough to fall asleep in the first place, most won't be lucky enought to stay asleep for long when the beast comes knockin' from it's REM call. All these techniques may be great with tension type headaches... They may even work with migraine (maybe)... But I don't see where these will help with clusters. If anything, some of these might make it worse. There's plenty of useful drug free treatments on the OUCH site. Maybe you should go there a read a few... While you're at it... Take a look at the cluster information. You might find it useful. Drk^Angel

Drk^Angel, you misunderstood our friend, the brushing of the wet hair does increase the blood flow in the pain nerve, not in any blood vessel. This time our friend recommends room temperature water on the head, the last time a hot shower. Is the temperature difference dependent whether we grind out teeth or not? Yours very sick (from CH and bogus cure reports) old man, Ueli

I might have been a bit hasty on disregarding this post. So let's see. We have in our arsenal a teeth guard (from your previous post), a shower head with room temperature water, a brush, a tub of vicks and a vibrator. You put the toothguard in your mouth, then cover the vibrator in vicks and stick it up your bum. At the same time brushing your hair under the shower. When the pain of the vicks sets your arse on fire, you bite hard on the tooth guard and start furiously brushing your hair. All this should detract from the pain of CH. Am I right here Nasser?

I am sorry Nasser, but if it is about helping people, one just CANNOT let bovine manure pass. What you describe is fine for tension headaches. Clusters are something quite, QUITE different. Didn't you say in your former post that you diagnosed yourself? Well, I think the same goes for you as for the man who tried to be his own defense attorney: you have a fool for a client. But by all means stop wasting our precious internet time.

I am not gonna flame you, but I would address some of your techniques. I instinctively use my fingers and sometimes pencils to apply pressure in the areas you mentioned during an attack. It really doesn't help, but keeps me busy trying. I have tried a massager (vibrator) and it only made it worse and irritated me. Room temp water does nothing, however, hot shower is soothing...doesn't stop the pain, but is soothing. At peak, my scalp and skin are so sore that brushing my hair (especially in the wrong direction) is something I avoid. Vicks...might be useful on the bottoms of the feet with a fan blowing on them, as I have actually had luck in aborting a few attacks by putting my feet on ice packs to try to divert the blood AWAY from my head. I think many of us have tried many of these things to no avail. I agree that some of these things might work well for tension headaches (kinda doubt it would work for migraine) It's not that we are not willing to try new things. We have tried some amazingly bizarre things! But through years of trial and failure, we have come to recognize what might or might not have a chance at working. This is a stubborn and difficult disease, which makes us at times stubborn and difficult people. Sherry

Nasser, I have had my brain checked, MRI, PET scans and induced pain to monitor certain areas of the brain whilst under induced pain. Not once did the infamous Professor Goadsby ask me to take a shower or comb my hair or even insert a tooth guard. Or even offer me a vibrator and Vicks. Adult site? If you're going to post children's remedies to one of the worst pains known to mankind, expect childish replies. Piss off and find another MB. Try garfield.com

Obviously this message is not meant for the majority of clusterheads, since we do not use pain killers so we can't be addicted to 'em. Nasser is an ignorant litle nitwit.

He/she is also very ignorant to the term addict. Do I use Pain-Killers? Yes, because it is the only option so far for the never-ending pain that I suffer, not only to Cluster-Head-aches but to severe cervical disc disease. Am I an addict because I use pain-killers? NO, I would gladly give up using all medications I use if the pain would stop or I had an option to use other meds that helped or that I was able to use. The term narcotic addict is defined as a person who uses a narcotic for other then medicinal purposes. Am I a Drug-Seeker? Yes, because I am always seeking meds that will help my pain, but only through my MD, and not on the streets or through Mail-Order Pharmacy's. So Nasser, if you found relief for your Head Pain (I doubt if they're Clusters), great. But please become educated on Clusters, before you post or infiltrate someone's E-Mail.
