I found my cure ... U gonna thank me

I am sure now after thorough investigtion through the internet and my analysis that I can stop the pain and get rid of it forever... My Cluster pain was caused by rout canal done to my tooth 2 years ago. This initiated a trauma. A weekness in my nerve that cause CH. CH started 1 month after the rc. I was underpressure, too much work & tension. My neurologist diagnosed the pain as Migrane and put me on mediction such as Calsium blocker. It didnot do anything to me. I stopped the mediction.. I had felt that my tooth caping for the rc tooth is too high. I asked the dentist to grind it, I watched my diet, drank lots of soda water, I took vacation AND the was gone like magic for 2 years (mind u I was still thinking it was migrane... Three wks ago I started the pain again exactly 2 years after in August... But my teeth are OK however I was gain very tense (by the way I m what they call "perfectionist"). I started the research again and discovered that I have a CLUSTER headache... I had all the symptons. I have read about all the possible treatments and I was lucky enough to meet this guy PT at my club who learned chinese techniques of applying finger pressure on nerves to kill the pain and massage technique to circulate the blood around the nerves. I also found out that I am grinding my teeth at night and sometimes during the day when I am tense. My conclusions Grinding my teeth is the catalyst of the CH. I grind my teeth because of stress & tension. The cause of the CH is my over sensitive nerve due to the routec canal (the head trauma). To stop the CH I apply techniques to bring blood to the nerve starting from my gums of the CH side, to the sinus between the nose & eye, tip of the head top of the side, shoulder and the elbow. Thanks to PT in five minutes with his technique of massaging with an electric massager and fingure pressure it DISAPEARS. He told me the pain goes away because of the blood flow and attension to all the nerve critical points. A hot shower can help because it does the same thing. More blood more O2.. Now to prevent CH from coming again.. I have to stop grinding my teeth.. I am using a teeth guard at night, massage techniques to my jaw muscles & relief of tension causes... It is working fine :D :D During my research I could not find any relation or any info about grinding teeth and CH ...... DID U???? I hope this info could help u all Nasser

Interesting read. I cannot say that my CH problems are relative to teeth grinding. That is one habit I do not have. Glad you found relief.

Sorry to say, your research and discovery that you have "a CLUSTER headache" was not very successful. Cluster headaches have nothing to do with grinding teeth (that would more point towards TMJ) nor can they be "cured" by Chinese hanky panky. Quote: (by the way I m what they call "perfectionist" |

I to thought my cluster headaches were related to my having a root canal done a month or so befor the ha started. I also thought maybe it was TMJ related because I grind my teeth so I bought a mouth gard. It did nothing for my cluster headaches. I am also aware of the pressure points you speak of. I can press on them until I pass out and I find no relief of pain. I am happy that you have found pain relief and something that works for you however I am inclind to think that if you truly have ch your teeth problem is a coincidence or else you don't have ch you have TMJ and were misdiagnosed. Researchers have found that ch is caused by a brain abnormality not teeth grinding. I wish you luck and future pain free days. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Hey Nasser, For me English is the 4th language, but nevertheless I've learned how to spell "you are". I also don't mix up "stupid" and "clever". So, I am clever enough to understand that this site is for people to help each other in matters of cluster headaches, as stated in the opening pages of this site. I am not too stupid to know that grinding teeth and a root channel are not the cause of cluster headaches. One has not to be smart to know that someone without an e-mail address, nor gender nor age nor origin, but advertising a "cure" must be a scam artist. How much do you charge for your teeth protectors and your electric massager?

I was once told I had TMJ and after spending 13,000 dollars[ yes , that is thousand] and making my ch worse the quack told me that was all he could do for me and learn to live with the pain. I too have some jaw pain with my ch and pain at the base of my skull where a lump seems to form, when pain is gone so is lump. Mustang

I'm glad Nasser found relief from his pain but, I have to agree with Ueli on this one. Doesn't sound like cluster to me. Mustang, have you seen the picture of the trigeminal nerve. http://www.clusterheadaches.org/library/general/trigeminal_pic.htm If you follow the nerve (the orange colored one) you can see why you can have pain in the jaw. and nose and eye and teeth.

The lump: Doc Robinson explained to us at the convention that the trigeminal nerve extends to below the base of the skull before it sweeps back up to it's connecting point in the spine. The "lump" a lot of people get on the back of the neck, just below the skull, is probably due to an inflamation of the trigeminal nerve at this point.

Teeth grinding and clenching causes TMJ not clusters. I have had TMJ and the pain is COMPLETELY different from the pain of clusters. Sherry

Not to be picky but I believe that teeth grinding, aka Bruxism, doesn't cause any kind of headches. It just wears your teeth down. TMJ is caused by a misalignment or deformity of the jaw joint. Either way, it sure ain't CH. BTW - I've had my teeth ground down to realign my bite in hopes of stopping the attacks. No help!

Bob, TMJ is not a headache. It is more specifically a jaw pain. It can be caused by clenching though. I was told that TMJ is actually more like a type of arthritis of the temporal mandible joint. Just as an aside...when I had TMJ, before it was diagnosed, I would have terrible dreams that my jaw was locked tight and the more I tried to loosen it the tighter it got until all of my teeth shattered in my mouth. This was a recurring dream at that time... It was the WORST dream!! I found that I was clenching my teeth at night. Unfortunately, clenching, is not preventable with a guard...you just clench that! I had my jaws packed with cotton to keep them from touching and was put on a liquid diet and muscle relaxants. Sherry

Just had a bout, 1st for 9 months! Have had CH on & off since 1985. Had all the tests, treatments & consultations, no cure. Nothing more soothing during a bout than scrubbing yer gums with a soft toothbrush. works most of the time if you apply as soon as you get the tell tale twinge. If no brush available, rub your gums hard with your finger. So Nasser, you don't talk crap, and I know what i'm taking about - 17 years of suffering

Nasser, I received your message. It's not that other posters are necessarily beating you up. It's just like what was said earlier. Everyone here has been through the proverbial ropes, when dealing with these H/A's. I'm sure everyone here has tried every strange and weird cure, known to man. And mostly, it has not helped. We feel put on from the Medical establishment, since there are far too few treatments coming for Clusters. It is the same in every country, not just Jordan. Some Meds. may be tougher to get, in your country. But, there isn't a sure-fire treatment available anywhere in the world. & Pharmaceutical Companies are not looking hard for a cure. We normally get "Hand me downs" from our big brother MIGRAINES. So, like I said in my other post, I'm glad you have found your cure for your head pain. But don't feel put upon when we don't believe it will work for us.

Clusters during stressful times, I have found that stress can stop clusters. I have actually aborted ch's by stressing myself. TMJ was all that could be found on my cat scan. I believe that CH can trigger a TMJ attack. But a real TMJ attack is ussally CH free. It's great when my TMJ comes back becouse it means I am too stressed to get a CH.

I have to say that I fully agree with Ueli. Well done, excellent application of your common sense & logic. And having clusters are bad enough, we certainly don't need some scam artists to make a quick buck off us. If it isn't for people like Ueli, it is easy to victimize sufferers of cluster headaches, because if there are others like me who is so desperate for relieve, and willing to try anything. Insidently, I've been to a "Headache Clinic" 5 years ago, and was given the same gringing teeth bull, and got a mouthpiece. When I went to my GP (no mystery, in excruciating pain despite the fancy gaget), he diplomatically told me I've been had like many other of his patients suffering from different types of headaches.

Nasser, I'm sure everyone here is glad you found relief from your pain. But, I think it is important to ensure that you have a proper diagnosis - whether you actually have clusterheadaches. There is not a cure for these headaches, so maybe you originally had a mis-diagnosis? When I first had very definitive cluster symtoms, I went to a doctor who diagnosed me with cluster headaches. She gave a list of foods and "triggers" to avoid, and some betablockers. I did what she told me to, and continued to get hit with the headaches. So, I went to a neurologist who told me the trigger list (except alchohol) was actually bullshit. (What a relief, as I love aged cheese.) The neuro gave me an MRI which confirmed an enlarged (deformed?) hypathalmus (spelling?)...I never found relief with the medications prescribed, so I went to another neurologist, who did another MRI (also confirming the first's diagnosis) BUT he put on the right treatment (verapimil and imitrix) and eventually my cycle ended. The point of this post is don't believe the first diagnosis without an MRI - even if you present with the typical symtoms, and please see a specialist who has had expereince and training for clusterheadaches. My new doctor told me that CH are extremely rare, and many are mis-diagnosed. Good luck with whatever your condition is... Chris

I have been grinding my teeth since I was a little kid and it's getting much worse. I'm slowly destroying my teeth. I've had a mouthguard previosly, but it wasn't for the purpose of getting rid of my h/a's (which it didn't) it was for the purpose of saving my teeth. Now the grinding is worse than ever & I think that is because my clusters are worse than ever and that is making me stressed when I sleep which causes me to grind. I have to spend loads more money on another nightguard now because my teeth moved and the old one no longer fits. I've already destroyed one of my teeth completely. Anyway, so my point is teeth grinding didn't cause my clusters but I'm sure the clusters are making my teeth grinding worse because of stress.

9erfan, Do NOT yet spend your hard-earned money for a new mouthguard. Instead, go to a sporting goods store or to the sporting goods department at Walmart or some-such and spend $7 on the "mouthguard-maker-wax-thingy" they sell for football players, etc. I too am a grinder, since my teens, who seems intent on destroying my own teeth. I have used the expensive dentist-makes-it variety as well, and the do-it-yourself version, and have gotten as much relief with one as with the other. So, I said "no more money for you, Mr. Dentist." It's worth a try first anyway, for $7, right? Good luck and PFDAN! K
