Hello everybody. Been a loooong time since I was active on this board. Could somebody answer my stupid question? I understand Imitrex can be injected just about anywhere soft. My very first one administered at Urgent Care was in the arm like everything else. Of course I've always self injected in my thigh as directed, but I've trained my husband to shoot me in the arm during this episode. Just easier since I don't have to go to the bathroom to expose the thigh when I'm not home. My question is, since the arm is closer to the head (and the heart), is it supposed to work a bit "faster" than the thigh?? I play with the dosage (1/4-1/3 of a shot at a time) to get rid of the weird neck feeling quickly after the headache is nuked. I'm not exactly sure if shooting in the arm is quicket than the thigh to nuke the headache, but it feels like it does. Maybe I'm just being delusional with my wishful thinking??

Yuko, All I can tell ya is that I give my injection in my thigh and it works in about 5 minutes. Can't ask for any more than that! Chris L

I haven't tried Imitrex injections or pills. I think one lady I heard takes pills? Is there a difference? Larry

LOL, yes, right into the skull!!!! Of course it works in minutes.......but I was hoping it's just a "tad" faster into the arm...every second counts. This is the first time I used the arm, but I find the injection less painful there (I have never ever used the auto injector). I feel it's because the skin is thicker on the thigh. It still works like a magic, but oh boy Imitrex is nasty stuff! Once we feel it coming, the sooner the better.......I've put it off in my delusional hope that it would somehow "go away", but I've been WRONG every time. When I had a STINGY insurance company, I have to be VERY STINGY with injections, so I'm still trying to be stingy although I've had abundant supply this time. If I shoot myself real early, even 1/4 shot is sufficient, thus less recovery time. DJ mentioned Imitrex in a vial depends on the state you're in. At least here in CA, I can get them in tiny vials (one shot). So I can just suck 1/3 or even 1/4 of a shot with a disposable insulin syringe. Hey, my cat is diabetic, so I have plenty of disposable syringes! Most pharmacies must order Imitrex in vials, but mine had no problem (took a few days though). My neurologist said I'm probably okay using the pre-measured injection in 3-4 times, but she was concerned that once used, it could get contaminated. Needle is okay (my own germ), but the rest just has to be used up within days. She said an open vial can be kept for a couple of months in a clean environment (I use a ziplock). I highly recommend everybody to ask for it in a vial. Pharmacies don't even know they can get it for you, but get your neuro to write or call in the Rx and do insist at the pharmacist's counter----

It doesn't really matter where you do it, because it still has to travel through the circulatory system to reach it's intended target... That means it'll still get filtered out of the fatty tissue, into the bloodstream, then through the body. PFDAN......................................... Drk^Angel
