I was issued a standard oxygen mask. Am I correct in reading posts I should have a different type, a non-rebreather? can someone explain? will it make a difference? does it help work faster? THanks

With a standard mask you won't get 100 per cent oxygen 100 per cent of the time.

And turn the tank valve to about 10 to 12 lpm (or maybe even higher)

I would say to keep it clean. In such an oxygen rich enviroment germs, mold, fungus snot, etc could grow to unbelievable size.
 
And cut the elastic band off the mask. That's in case you fall asleep while wearing it it will fall away from your face.

I`ll chance my mask every 3 weeks.
