Independence Day Shroom Celebration
« on: Jul 9th, 2002, 12:55am »
Quote Quote Modify Modify

Well, this 4th of July was my one year anniversary of my independence from cluster headaches thanks to the almighty mushroom.
I redosed 6 months ago (twice..5 days apart) and did the same on the forth. (part deux appearing tuesday the 9th...hey, thats in 3 minutes...I better type fast)

I had experienced a few shadows on the preceeding days leading up to the 4th, beginning around the 27th of June. I popped a cap (no I don't own a gun since I know better, being a clusterhead) into my mouth and the shadow was gone in about 30 minutes after being around about an hour prior. The previous ones lasted up to 4 hours. (thanks to those who tried this first and suggested it)

After 5 days completely clean, I dosed around 7 pm on the 4th, timing for the 9pm fireworks.
Took 3g in a slushy....raspberry for those taking notes.
Packed up my family, my lawn chair, my limited edition Pink Floyd Cluster Headache Treatment Compilation cd and my walkman. (There are a few in circulation...it comes with special orders Smiley

I have become sort of a neighborhood project. I'm not shy about telling people what I've been up to in treating my clusters. I got plenty of high fives at the fireworks.
I also just got back from a weekend camping trip with my grandkids....my 8 year old grandson, who unfortunately remembers all too well my attacks, even though I tried in vain to shield them, bought me a rope necklace with a mushroom charm. I wear it proudly.

The best moments during the fireworks came during "Learning to fly," "On The Turning Away," and "Comfortably Numb" with David Bowie and Trent Raznor. All three are great live versions.
Watching the fireworks in 4D was exceptional.
(Hey, when you don't have to worry about clusters, you can become a music critic LOL)

It appears that the 6 month treatment is at the max time period between treatments for me. The physical feelings that come with the treatment that seem to be directly related to my clusters were once again quite evident. The draining of the sinuses, the feeling of "cloudiness" draining from my head, clarity of thought.

I don't know if anyone else ever had this feeling during a cluster attack, (I've asked a few people and they didn't seem to agree) but during the pain, *I* felt that my thinking was more clear than usual and I was often quite creative during the pain. Not that I could do anything about it during the pain, but I know my thought process seemed a bit clearer (at least during the few seconds between each pain jab).
I made some bad decisions, like punching a ceramic tile wall many times, but I also seemed to do some "deep thinking."
This is similar to what many people (including myself) feel during a mushroom trip.
My emotions are much more pronounced and that is why people state, rightfully so, that set and setting are so crutial. I think the 4th of July is a perfect setting for me anyway. It's always been my favorite holiday.

Maybe I enjoy the "trip" a little more than I should, but knowing what this treatment has done to change my life, puts me into an excellent frame of mind and I couldn't be happier knowing months of pain have been replaced by a few hours of enhanced color and sound sensations every 6 months. (so, sue me if it makes me happier than is allowed by law)

Anyway, I'm doing very well on my treatment.
Thanks once again to Pinky and Flash for all their work.
Thanks to all the new town cryers....Rick et all, you're doing a great job here, thanks to you.

I'm working on a website for the shroom treatment but my webmaster recently had a near fatal car wreck and she is on the mend. No, its not to compete with this site at all.  I need a place to refer doctors, legislators and researchers I contact regarding the treatment that has quick and easy to find specific information.

take care and be well everyone.

Pink,

I guess saying this is great news is an understatement.  Congratulations!  Forgive my memory, because I know I've read your story in the archives.  Were you typically hit with a cycle once a year?  I'm trying to gauge how often I'll be taking maintenance doses myself.

I believe we live pretty close to each other, actually.  That's fantastic that you want to put a site together, although I'm very sorry to hear about your friend's accident.  Best wishes to her.  Are you aware that Bob P and Ueli have been compiling all relevant info regarding this therapy?

Great to hear from an old school fungushead, thanks for keeping us posted!

Enjoy your "session" Cool

Peace,

Allllright!  FREEDOM!

Good to hear it's working well, Pinkfloyd. Right now, Jimi Hendrix is playing the Star Spangled Banner ala Woodstock, in my head.  And no, I'm not taking my medication at the moment.

Don't feel guilty about enjoying your treatment...hell, you earned a little pleasure for once.

Though I would not take shrooms and go out into a crowd, a little fireworks is appropriate. Though I must confess I'm not much of a fan of your namesake band ....more of a Grateful Dead kinda guy myself.... music is a great accompanyment to the treatment.

Interesting about your website plans...

You may want to talk to the other Pink (SharkMark) and Ueli and Bob P about a new website. The current site, at www.a-dzign.com/shrooms/, could probably use some updating...and there's talk of setting up a new site where the content won't "blow back" on the person hosting the site...
Let's get some folks together on this...I'm willing to help on an ad hoc committee. Perhaps it would be best to keep this separate from OUCH...what do you think Bob P?

You'll find additional info under the name of Bob Wold.
I "normally" went for a minimum of six months and would many times start in the fall. I was once in a 5 year long chronic stage that thankfully broke a couple years ago.

I'm in Lombard. Maybe we should have "tea" sometime LOL.
I am aware of some things going on (and has been done in the past) and know of all the work that's gone into organizing the posts, problems with the current site's location, etc.
Thanks Rick.

Thanks Tommy.
Yes, I'm in contact with PinkSharkMark. I hope to be in contact with anyone and everyone interested. I'll also be trying to do this without stepping on any toes. I am well aware and appreciative of all the previous work done in this area.
I do plan on this site being separate from OUCH.
Anyone interested in being involved should drop me an email.

Pink,

I live a 10 minute walk from Wrigley Field.  Compared to a lot of people I talk to here, we're practically neighbors!  We've got to hang some time.  Cubs game?  I'm actually more of a Sox fan, so if you'd be up for Comiskey, that's even better.  I knew you were Bob, I just wasn't sure if you wanted your real name posted since you are now a Pink one also.

I would love to help out with the new site.  However, my computer skills...well, I've learned how to use this board pretty well Roll Eyes.  Let me know if I can do something.

My favorite session music is the Orb, who freely admit they are totally influenced by the Floyd.  Tommy, you'd get along with my girl.  I like the Dead, but she is a card carrying Deadhead.

Are you guys up for a Dominican Republic trip next year to personally shake Pinky's hand?

Peace,

-Rick

Life long Sox fan Rick. Was just at Comiskey to watch them beat the cubs. Game sounds good...better do it before the strike.

I'm known by both names to most netminders. I don't use one name to hide the other. I'm too anonymous in real life the way it is.Wink

Maybe Sosa will take us with him next time he goes home?

Congratulations "other Pink"

Your success story gives me even more hope.  I will be dosing around the sixth month mark myself and I actually like the trip.  I screwed up and didn't listen to any music on mine but I did listen to the wine and crack of a bitchin beautiful blue bug zapper.  I think that maybe I had too much fun as well.  Hey fellows.  I know that I and my better half are up for a trip to see the Pink one.  If I can help on the site in anyway then let me know as well.  PFDAN

Thanks a million to all you guys - you've given me hope where I was fast running out. My farm is up and running (hopefully I did everything right). I guess it'll be a while before I can actually give it the "acid" test (sorry)  but sure am anxious to give it a shot.
My second cycle started 14 months ago, and while I havent had anything over a KIP5 since last August, the damned thing's ALWAYS with me, 24/7. Guess I now qualify as chronic.
Although it isn't my main job, I've been a professional musician/singer most of my life, untill Clusterhead came along (playing music's an addiction, kinda like playing golf) and would sure love to able to do it again. Or ANYTHING, for that matter, without my head fixing to blow up.
Grow, little schroomies, grow...

Gtarman,
I am sure sorry to hear about your situation.  I only hope that those little shroomies grow fast so that you can get the relief from the beast that other sufferers have gotten.  If you ever need anything from me as in support or someone to vent to then feel free to contact me.  Iwish you success.  Be sure to check out some of the threads concerning dosing for chronics verses episodics.  I believe that a high initial trip will do the most good for you if you can handle it.  There are a lot of good people on here that are willing to help hold a hand for the ride.  Keep us posted.  Oh, and buy a bug zapper.  It's loads of fun.

Thanks, Scottie, I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions and need some expert direction as the crop progresses.
As a "child of the 60's" I will admit to some long-ago experimentation with recreational psychedelics so I know what to expect, and I have some buddies to hang with during the excursion. Shouldn't be a problem.
Damn beast pulled an Emeril on me and "kicked it up a notch" before my vacation beach trip last week; I started on Verapamil before I left and it really did help after a few days. But what I want is to get as far from Clusterville as possible, regardless of the vehicle! Don't we all?

Big high five, Pinkfloyd, for your great success!  I'm Scottie's other half, and God knows I pray he can continue to get such great results.  Thanks for including details of what you experienced that helped you know the beast was trying to return.  I definitely want Scottie to be prepared and to dose again sooner than 6 months if needed.

Congratulations on your farm Gtarman!  Keep the faith, man, and most definitely keep the hope.  Welcome to the Cult of Fungus - we'll keep our fingers and toes crossed for you!  The cult has one rule, though - you have to stay in clusterville, even though you are painfree, actually because you are painfree, and help spread the news.

Hey Rick - if you are me, and I do this  Kiss - am I kissin' myself?   ;D

PFDAN to all!

Scott- I love you, MAN!!!

Gtrman-Best of luck brother, please post everything that goes on for you in detail.  Please read all you can as well!  And ask us any questions you need help with.

Kristi-Yes.  (God, these voices in my head won't STOP Undecided).

Bob W.-Monday, July 22 is half-price night at Comiskey against the f@#$ing Twins ;D.  Let me know if you can make it so that I make sure I'm off.

I've seen Buerhle pitch twice this year and they lost both times.  I was there when Foulke gave up 5 runs in the 9th against the Yankees Angry Angry Angry, after Mark outpitched Clemens.  I need to see a win!

Peace to all,

Speaking of baseball and psychedelic celebrations...

One day in June 1970, Doc Ellis, pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates, thought he had the day off. So he and his girlfriend dropped a couple hits of acid. Then his girlfriend saw that he was scheduled to pitch that day against the San Diego Padres.

Someone got him to the ball park. Someone helped him find his locker. He suited up, and threw his first pitch into the dirt. But his second pitch was a blazing fastball over the outside corner. Unhittable. As long as Doc concentrated on the fastball, no one could hit his pitches. Now a lot of those pitches were sloppy, and he walked eight. But that fast ball....

Here's an alleged quote from Ellis:
"I was zeroed in on the (catcher's) glove, but I didn't hit the glove too much. I remember hitting a couple of batters and the bases were loaded two or three times. The ball was small sometimes, the ball was large sometimes, sometimes I saw the catcher, sometimes I didn't. Sometimes I tried to stare the hitter down and throw while I was looking at him. I chewed my gum until it turned to powder. They say I had about three to four fielding chances. I remember diving out of the way of a ball I thought was a line drive. I jumped, but the ball wasn't hit hard and never reached me."

Doc Ellis pitched a no-hitter that day, and the Pirates won, 2-0.

Is this a true story? Who cares, it's a good one.

That is a true story about Ellis. Besides that, if you ever saw him warm up in the bullpen wearing *curlers* you knew for sure that the guy regularly dropped more than dinner dishes.

The 22nd sounds good Rick! Drop me an email so we can discuss it.
