Oxygen???s

I have a few qustions for everyone about oxygen.  Any help would appreciated.  I just used my oxygen for the first time and I'm not sure if I'm doing it right.
How many liters should I be using, and for how long?  I have an 8 liter gauge and am getting a 10 liter gauge on Monday and don't know how long I should use the tank on each setting.
What posistion should I be in when breathing the oxygen?
Do I take deep breathes or just try to relax?
Do I breathe out of my mouth or my nose?
If my CH does not go away within 15 minutes, how much longer should/can I use the oxygen?
What are the side effects of using oxygen?
Should I still use Verapimil and Imitrex even though  I'm using the oxygen now?
Should I use oxygen for the shadows on the KIP scale?
Should I use the oxygen all through my cycle or just during my peak?
Will the oxygen work on rebound headaches as well?

I apologize for all the questions, but my neuro, was not much help.  She told me that the person delivering the oxygen would be able to show me how to use it.  He was not all that helpful.  He broke the 10 litter gauge and has to bring me a new one on Monday.

Thank you all for your help.  I've been reading a lot on the message board and am amazed on how everyone is so nice.

Thank you again,
Mark

Hey mwt.....ditto what michelle said.....but to amplify a little:
(gotta copy and paste here)

How many liters should I be using, and for how long?
...most of us use 10-15 lpm, depends on what is comfortable...less than 10 don't get it for me...use the o2 until you are feeling relief... if I don't feel better after 15 minutes means I didn't trip the beast soon enuff....

What posistion should I be in when breathing the oxygen?
.....sittting up works for me...sometimes this is hard if you're dancin'...

Do I take deep breathes or just try to relax?
...take normal breaths...TRY to relax......use charlie's technique (he'll tell ya this one SOON, I'm sure....

Do I breathe out of my mouth or my nose?
...again, i get more air thru my mouth, but whatever is comfortable...the beast likes it if you are tense....RELAX>>>

If my CH does not go away within 15 minutes, how much longer should/can I use the oxygen?

...see above...

What are the side effects of using oxygen?
...almost none...but o2 IS toxic inf used STUPIDLY/IGNORANTLY....educate yerself...it's all HERE....

Should I still use Verapimil and Imitrex even though  I'm using the oxygen now?
.......probably you should continue with your prescribed meds....I'm a o2 junkie: it works for me and I feel , the less drugs the better......I have fucking begged for HEROIN at the ER...no joy

 Grin

Should I use oxygen for the shadows on the KIP scale?
...I do, the side effects are minimal and if I can strangle the beast before he has me by the short hairs, GOOD DEAL!

Should I use the oxygen all through my cycle or just during my peak?
....USE it!......it's NOT a BAD THING.......

Will the oxygen work on rebound headaches as well?
......probably, but the beast is a tricky sumbitch.....kick his ass any way you CAN......

Mark.....listen up CLOSE......this is seriious shit and I know how ya feel......READ READ READ.....the clusterfolk here know their shit...and they are here 24/7.........hope you find your "key"...... best regards and PF......Steve

Im on my 1st month of oxygen with pretty good results. It works most of the time for me at 10-15 lpm.Sometimes though I cant sit still or the pain is so bad the mask pisses me off(kinda like when someones talking to me during a h/a).My only downfall is the tanks empty pretty quickly(4 h/a's).I grabbed 2 tanks last visit but emptied 2nd on a sunday morning,a day when my store is closed(ouch).Gonna get another for backup.

I went a little different than most and got an on demand regualtor. Instead of using a rebreather mask I suck off the regulator and get pure flow oxygen. Advantage is I can abort a ha in about 10-15 minutes, and only use about 300 lbs out of an E tank. That gives me roughly 7-8 headaches per tank. Oxygen is my secondary defense, lithium, 600mg a day is my first line. When I get a break through, I take 2 cafergot, and then use the 02 until the cafergot kick in. In the past when I've used only the oxygen, ha comes back about 10 minutes after I stop the oxygen. As far as how long to keep sucking the oxygen, I've never had to go much past 10 or 15 minutes, I'd send a request to the good doctor for advice on what the upper limit should be for the oxygen. Good luck, be patient and keep an open mind, there's a combo that will work for you I'm sure.

Hi mwt.  If you click on the "ask doc greg" button on the left, many of your questions will be answered.  It explains how oxygen should be used and the potential dangers of misuse.
