I'M ADDICTED TO EDOCETS PLS HELP ME

Hi
I found out 3/13/01 the I had CH and have taking way to many!!! 5- 7.5 per day the day before yesterday I was out of edocets and called the dr off and he was not in to refill my prescription. I went the whole day and didn't take any. I hurt so bad I couldn't even get out of bed. Then the bell went off I am addicted to these pills I got them filled 30- 7.5 on 6/18 I have 10 left. I Do take them for shadow and H/A But i think what i was doing wrong was taking them for shadows and I Know i should be taking that many I called the dr today and told his secty what was happening she is going to have him call me back Has anyone else had this happen? Please let me know how to stop this! It has gotten out of hand and i cant control it please help me

What you're doing wrong is taking them at all.
Pain killers are the least effective thing for CH.
Dump the pain killer completely! Go to Oxygen and triptans to abort the attacks and find a preventative like verapamil, lithium or an anti-seizure med that works for you.
Good luck. It won't be fun but you've got to get the monkey of your back first.

Kelly, I work at a detox center as a nurse...will be glad to give you a detox schedule to get you off the pain pills if your Doc does not help you...email me anytime and i will be glad to help you if i can.. smiles,nancyc ps ten is all you need to detox .

I've never heard of Edocets, but I assume they are pain-killers. Bob is correct........they won't help your clusters.
never been addicted to pain-killers, but I tried them in desperation once. TALK ABOUT REBOUNDS!!!!!!!!!!!

I made the mistake of taking vicodin everyday so I could sleep! I got addicted to it to the point that I could not get myself to sleep without it!

I understand what is happening. All too often we become addicted innocently and I say "shame on your doctor". I've seen this happen so often that I'm ready to start a campaign over it!
I have a couple of family members fighting this problem, as well as some of their friends, and hate what I see happening to young families .
Pain Management Specialists should be the ones to customize the use of pain relievers.
You are a very wise person to recognize this and ask for help early on.
Most clusterheads will agree that pain pills will not help clusterheadaches.
Our gal Nancy will set you on the right track.

Hi all
Went to Jefferson yesterday and i went to discuss my addiction. The dr said you have to take something for the pain prescribed 120 -7.5 can you beleive this. He gave me 3 shots of nerve blockers in my neck and sent me on my way. He said theres a differents of being depended on a medication and being addicted he said sometimes this goes hand in hand??
I gave the medication to my husband and only carry 2 with me in my purse. I have stop taking so many but boy was i shocked when he told me this. That was the reason i went to see him and he acted as if that was the least of my worrys he didn't even listen to me. i keep saying but i am addicted to them It was like talking to the wall. But I have cut down alot and with my husbands help i think i can slowly get to the point where i only take them in extreme cases I am so disappointed in myself for even filling the prescription but the way he talks or his lack of talking about it Goes to show that drs are so programed to givin this medication out even when your ask for help I dont understand . But i know with all your love and support i feel more like i am in control then before i talked to you all

Hi
Just my experience with edocets, which I believe are the generic of Percocets......not only do they not work, but taking them can actually bring on a CH.
I'm talking from experience. Try O2 to relieve the pain and Verapamil to help reduce the frequecy of your attacks.

If pain meds don't help don't use.  Opiate (methadone) therapy took 4-5 3 hour attacks daily (no meds) and 2 three hour attacks daily (on a combination of normal cluster meds) to less then 6 attacks per week and relief from a 10 in about 20 minutes, including going back to work and driving after 5 years of being completely disabled. I realize that this works for a few of us and my Dr. was only willing to try after 5 years of very carefully monitered treatment with more conventional meds. One of the big problems with most opiate type therapys are 1) using meds with tylonal, asprin, or ibuprofen added to the meds ie: lortab, percocet etc.. I have gone of the meds 3 times in the last 6 years 2 times tapering and one time cold turkey with virtually no withdrawal. Don't try without Drs. OK. Perhaps it is because I suffer migraines and clusters. My migraines respond well to triptans my clusters not at all. However I have been in the ER twice with an artery of the heart going in spasm with imitrex so I can't use triptans at all. I don'r suggest this is a cure for all. However since the more common treatments didn't help I was grateful to have a Dr. reccomend a Dr. who had some sucess with this type of treatments MikeL

I have been there and done that. I went to see a neurologist 5 years ago,, and he told me no more narctocs, they acutally them worse. Once you start taking them for the shadows then,, you begin to get the "rebound" effect.
Get an appointtment with a neurologists. Go with the oxygen, verapamil, and possibly prednisone dose pack.
Trust me,, they work much better than the narcotics.
Its going to be a rough road,, but you'll get through it.

Verapamil Retard 120mgX5-7/daily during cycle
Oxygene alone at 10ltm for 15 minutes or combined with imitrex-shots does miracles.The shots should start working in 6-9minutes.a few secons after that you are almost painfree
Prednisolone in high doze for 10 days 80mg
then over a 3 weeks periode step down like 60-40-30-20-10-5mg /daily
This is the miraclecure for me,but i`m not a doc.just another clusterhead from Norway
