When is it Over?

Episodic since '72. Latest cycle began Feb '02 and have been on 120X5 Verapamil-R for three weeks or so. Foolishily did Verapamil-SR @ 240X2 for 9-10 weeks with no avail until researching posts and having Doc chg script. After 7 days HA free thought I'd taper down and got to 120X3 for two days and guess who jumped up? Is it simply a trial and error to determine when the cycle has run it's course. In the past, the cycle simply ran it's course of 5-8 months with daily's or 2X daily's and aborted with DHE-45 inj. This time it seems that the Verap-R has kept the HA's hidden for the past 3 weeks but afraid to taper down.
Any suggestions on when I should peek again?

I have that same problem.  I usually just keep taking the medicine, whatever it is, for quite some time.  I don't think about if the cycle is over too much.  Verap. never gave me too many problems with side effects.  If I didn't have any bothersome side effects, I think I would just keep taking the medicine and be happy to be without headaches, if I were you.  Glad you're getting some relief!

Hi John,

Some advice on lowering verapamil, from my neuro:

before lowering your dose, monitor 2 wks. If you don't have attacks AND no shadows, go down (from 480 to 360 mg). Take every 120 mg step down in a period of 2 wks, providing you haven't got any HA's.

Hope this helps,

Marijke
