One night of Maxalt, then the next night, same HA, same time. So, maxalt again. Next night, same HA, and another Maxalt. This must be rebound, but how do you break the cycle?

Not a rebound. Cluster headaches happen every day at the same time for most people. My last cluster was 1pm and 1 hour after going to bed, every day for 15 weeks.

I agree that it's not rebound. I get clusters at the same time no matter what I do. 9 AM every day for 2 weeks.... 2 PM every day for 10 days.... etc. When I rebound from imitrex I get a migraine. Annoying as all hell, but better than the cluster. Mark

Also, one of the few things I do know about rebounds is that they have very different symptoms, including being much less painful.

Barbee, I agree with the others - they are not rebounds. Clusters have a way of "visiting" the same time - messing up the same thing we all need - REST AND SLEEP!!!!!! As for breaking the cycle - I'm not sure of your exact story. You may try a round of Prednisone to get some relief. There are many abortives other than Maxalt that you can take......search and read the archives. Keep us posted and keep the faith. NotH20

You can manipulate your ha timing, but it may not be something you are willing (or able depending on whether your at peak or not) to do. I will trigger my ha (alcohol works best for me) about an hour before I go to bed so that I won't get one during the night. Now, 1) I can deal better with the ha while I am awake and I need my sleep to help fight the beast 2) This does not work if you get numerous ha's during the night (like when you are at peak) but can give you a few good hours. Like I say, this is not for everyone, but it works for me. Sherry

Prednisone seems to be the best way to break my cycle. I have also "manipulated" my cycle if I was getting ready for a big meeting or something to change the time. Alcohol is a good way... even one drink in the middle of cycle and I will bring one on prematurely (from my "normal" time of day). Mark
