Rick, tommyD and others. My shroom report.

Rick, tommyD. Okay where to start? I'm episodic and get a cycle every 2 years (approx). The cycle lasts about 8 to 10 weeks. There is no particular month or season when it strikes in the year. My last bout was in 1999. In March 2001, the year when my next cycle was due, I decided to try the shroom therapy from reading about it here. ( By the way, Flash and pinksharkmark were a great help at the time ). I grew my own and the spores that were sent to me by a "friend" who likes 'Turtles' where the "Indian" strain of Psilocybe Cubensis, I am told. Around April time they were ready and that's when I took the first dose. It is important to note here that I had not had any attacks or even shadows before I dosed, they were due that year but I hadn't felt a thing and so the effects on attacks etc is not an issue. As pinksharkmarks' notes suggest, it seems better to dose before a cycle comes on, if possible of course. I dose 3 times over 3 weekends only. I was not scientific with my dosing regards weights etc. I cut up 3 shrooms, perhaps 1.5 to 2 inches long. Simmered them in approx a half small teacup of water, say 5 fluid ounces. Simmered for 5 mins, added a spoonful of honey to taste ! and went for it, chopped up bits as well as liquid. Yes it tasted crap. I felt a bit "floaty" all afternoon and think I had very mild hallucinations, but nothing to heavy. That really was it. I didn't get a cycle during 2001 and we are now 5 months into 2002. Who knows whether I would have had one without the shrooms, but I like to believe it was down to those little buggers !! Please ask all the questions you like and remember I was in remission when I dosed, it may be the difference ? Peter

Hi Peter, Wanted to share my report also as it is as inconclusive as yours I'm episodic, once a year sometime between spring and fall, 3 months duration. I started shadowing about 2 weeks ago, of course in denial that the beast was coming, but I have been prepared and farming for the last 6 months. SO, I dosed w/ 2 grams last monday, 4-22-02. I think about trip level 1.5 or 2. Nice music show in my head, the lights brightened, lasted 7 hours, that's about it. Tues nite I got an actual cluster headache. Scared the crap outta me! It was only about a 3 and lasted half an hour but it was enough to tell me that I WAS going into cycle. No more denial. Took no meds. I decided that if I had anymore ha's last week, I would redose this last weekend. Welps, so far, NO headaches, NO shadows, NO nuttin! Of course I cannot say that the shrooms did it, but I plan on not redosing unless I get another shadow or headache. Maybe I'm done w/ my cycle for this year? Maybe not. And that's my story Mast

Thanks for the reports, folks, even if "inconclusive." That's the problem with using shrooms before the expected start of the cycle...you never know if it was the shrooms or the Beast just decided not to show its ugly mug. When I come out of remission, it's very gradual, so I can usually tolerate the heavy shadows and mild attacks until I can take the treatment (like to do it on weekends so I don't have to take off work). So I'm usually sure the beast is back, but it's still early enough the shrooms can easily work their magic. By the way, it's not magic, it just seems that way... I like to think of my self as a rationalist, scientific, skeptical kinda guy, so yes, I must agree the results are officially inconclusive. But it sure is a nice kind of inconclusive, eh?

Peter, Mastifflvr, Tommy, Thank you for all the "food for thought". It's great to hear all the positive experiences. Myself, I still can't seem to break my cycle. However, I've been med free for about 6 weeks now, and have been getting by on the shrooms so far. When I tried to lay off them, things became ugly again. After 9 days off, I've dosed twice in the last 7 days, and my attacks have again diminished to the point of being tolerable. I would much rather rely on this treatment for pain management than have to take more meds. Meds only seem to make me worse off, while my only shroom side effects are feelings of peace and internal calm. From what Flash has explained to me, it sounds as though mushroom therapy is most effective when used as a preventitive. Dosing in the middle of remission and then at the start of or right before your cycle seems to be the most effective game plan. Wish I would have known about this last November when my cycle started! PFDAN to all, -Rick
