I'm about to order some spores and mycobags, I've done all the research but I'm still confused when it comes time for harvest. what do I do next, I've read you dry them, make tea, can in honey, put in koolaid, stick under tongue, what is the best way? I'm only ordering a small amount since I am episodic and want to be prepared for when the beast decides to return. thank you and PFDAN to all cluster sufferers..... michelle

The way I understand it from what I've heard... You will want to dry the mushrooms for storage, or dry them (thoroughly!) then freeze them for long-term storage. They can be taken fresh or dried, but most dosing information refers to dried weight. Fresh mushrooms are of course much heavier. Flash has a technique for storing fresh mushrooms by immersing them in honey, but I think that's becuase dried mushrooms are illegal where he's from, while fresh mushrooms are not. Pinky's tea recipe sounds like the best way to take them, it is designed for quick absorption which make them more effective at minimum dose, and might help avoid the nausea some folks get. But I don't think all the details are critical as long as you leave the shrooms whole until just before you take them. Some folks put a very small piece of mushroom under the tongue as an abortive, but the main value of the shroom therapy is of course as a preventative. Good luck, and let us know how it works out.

Michelle. I am as confused as you. I have been reading up on the shroom therapy here, in case of another attack. (I had CH once a year for 22 years and then have had only one cycle in the last 7 years.) I understand that the dosage requires dried mushrooms, but how exactly are they dried before freezing them? And, how are they dried if they have been stored in honey? Hopefully someone can answer these questions. Maria

To dry them I went to the hardware store and bought a product called "Damp Rid". It comes in a plastic tub with a water catch basin under it. supposed to be for drying out damp areas of the house. I placed the DampRid container in a larger tupperware container and then placed a screen over the the top of the DampRid. I then just laid the fresh shrooms on the screen and put the lid on the tupperware, sealing the entire thing. It will dry shroom to crispy in a day or two.

Hi guys, I am one of the farmers. The method of the honey technique is only for preserving fresh mushrooms. They go into a honey jar that you have emptied of it's contents. ie: pour the honey into a measuring cup. Then you put in the mushies. Whole. Without packing them, but putting in as many as you can. Then you pour the honey back over them till they are covered completely. The idea is to get as many in as possible cuz the vital stuff will leach out into the honey. Wipe a wee bit of honey around the edge of the jar before putting the lid back on, this acts as a seal. For preserving dried mushies the method that I use is to put into a dehydrator (no heat) for a day and then into a descant chamber much like the one Bob P discribes below for another day. You must get them cracker dry. You can then store them in any cool dry dark place. They do not have to be frozen but that will keep them a wee bit longer. Glass containr is preferable but it should not be much bigger than the amount of shrooms you put into it. Less air space the better. Our method for taking the shrooms, ( I am the administrator, my husband Greg is the taker) is this. I dry the shrooms too cracker dry. I then put them through a herb mill to grind them up. I have purchased heat sealable tea bags and I fill them with two gram doses and seal them with an iron. Very easy and makes for a much better tea. There is no flesh to consume as that is what produces the gas and upset stomach. I then boil water in the kettle, and pour it over the tea bag. About two cups. You can use a tea pot or whatever you have the hold that much water. Then you spend the next ten minutes stirring and squeezing the tea bag against the sides. After ten minutes you drink her down in less than five minutes. Greg has used some pieces of the cap of a fresh shroom under his tongue to abort a couple of CH's too. That has about a 60% sucess rate with him. And that's the whole shebang. Anyone that has any questions can email me directly. Pinky is my teacher and he is the bestest! He's a little swamped with newbie farmers lately though. But I will do my best to help you with anything you need.   Pain free to all!

I thank all of you who have replied.......I THINK I understand it a little better now. my shrooms and mycobag are on there way. is there a purpose to your drying methods or can i air dry the mushrooms or use my food dehydrator (I make beef jerky) ? is there a difference between a food dehydrator which has heat and a no heat dehydrator? thanks again, all you clusterheads are the greatest! Michelle, You don't want to use the heat from the food dehydrater when drying. The heat will degrade or destroy the psilocybin.

Here's a reply I recently received on this subject of drying from the man himself - the venerable Mr. Pinky! The desiccant chamber he refers to is the Damp Rid, which can be purchased online. Pinky sure has been an incredibly helpful guy, I hope he doesn't mind me quoting him: "If you put them in front of a fan, either just laying them on a piece of newspaper in the stream of air, or suspending them in a mesh bag right in front of the fan blades, you can dry out about 90% of the moisture in the shrooms in around 24 hours. The shrooms will be shrivelled and leathery, and they will bend without snapping. Then pop them in the desiccant chamber, and they will usually be "cracker dry" in another 24 hours at most. You can put them in the desiccant chamber right from the beginning, but that puts a fairly heavy load on the Damp Rid. There's too much moisture for the available desiccant to absorb, and it will quickly become saturated to its capacity."
