Prednisone never had that effect on me. Within 24 hours of starting the pred I'm pain free. It's posible you may need to kick the verapamil up, many find they have to increase dosing as the years go be to keep it at an effective level. (With the usual warning that verapamil is a high octane med, you shouldn't raise or lower the level without the guidance of your doc.) If they start breaking through after the pred taper is up t may be time to kick up the dose. Good luck! Guiseppi

You know in reading his, my and your post Brew...I may have mis understood the question. If your "friend" you speak of is the beast, read my post, if your "friend" is the small brain all us men think with, read Brew's post. When I was quite young and virile, in my mid 20's, on top of the world, I went on verapamil for a short period of time. My "friend"...the one nearest and dearest to my heart, stopped listening to me. Thank goodness i discovered lithium!!!! Guiseppi

| I wish I knew what this all meant, but I'll answer your question. For me the most I've ever started on (prednisone, not prednisolone) is 80mg per day. Taken all at once, first thing in the morning. Most closely replicates your body's production of adrenaline.

The starting dose of pred. ranges from 10 to 100mg in the medical literature with the higher end (70-90mg). If you started much lower, you may wish to increase the dose and start another round. Obviously, you doc controls the decision.

I don't know the difference between them. I have started as high as 80, but most often I start at 60.

Ask Guiseppi. He mated once. 30 years later the memory still brings a smile to my face...sigh... Prednisone at 30 mg a day provides 100% relief for me. Many have to go a lot higher I know. Guiseppi

My Neuro scripted Prednisone for me at 50mg x 12 pills to be taken at once, then 12 per day for one week then a taper starting with dropping one pill a day until finished. Stops my CH's in it's track. But, I now have o2 at my ready and never had it before at the start of a cycle, have used Prednisone as my main abortive. I got my o2 about midway through my last cycle, but I take 480mg Verapamil as a prevent which is my cocktail! Sorry for the rambling, but be careful with what you use, I do not like Prednisone at all so I pray with my next cycle the o2 does it's thing and the Verapamil keeps them at bay like last time. (Note) Verap gives you the time to do other things, get a hobby or something.

I start Prednisone at 60 mg and that dose works for me. Of course, I'm a girl- if that matters. (Well, I guess it does)

| Lemme make sure I understand this, Barry. The first day you take 600mg? That's like post-op organ transplant level. Wow. Just wow.

| I went back into my files of scripts and double checked the dosage and it reads 50 in my Neuro's hand writing. On the pill bottle it reads 5mg x 12 daily=60mg daily. Thanks for catching that Bill, I sure wish Doc's could write so others can read what they put on paper. That original dose I posted would make me look like Hulk Hogan just before I blew up!

O-tay. That sounds a little more do-able. Otherwise you'd have to form a hand-to-hand line from the grocery to your mouth.

Good one Brew! That is why we keep telling everyone on this board that we are not Doctors, thank god! Can you imagine if one took that much Prednisone? I would probably look something like the guy on the right! On a serious note, Meds can be very dangerous, follow your Doctors orders.
