My husband was released from the hospital after a week of treatment at the Diamond headache clinic and was placed on a few new meds, he had 2 attacks while in the hospital, and a 2 or 3 shadows since being released. Much better than the every other an hour k-9's he was having, however, They DO NOT want him using the imitrex at all! The new preventative "cocktail" 240mg verapamil X 2 day (down from 960) @7am 7pm 300 mg lithium X 3 day (same) @7am, 2pm and 7pm 50 mg doxepin X 1 day (new)@bedtime 20 mg pepcid X 2 day (new) @ 7am 7pm 12 mg melotonin (up from 9mg) at bedtime took him off lamictal completely lyrica 50mg X 2 day *NEW* for abortive in order of preference for home use oxygen 12/lpm 10-15 minutes (will try again, not effective in the past) helping 2cc intramuscular norflex injection NEW (max 6cc per week) 1cc DHE intramuscular injection NEW (max 5cc per week) 50mg phenerghan NEW to use with DHE the injectables scare me to death! The needles are huge compared to the imitrex! He has never used DHE and I don't even have a clue as to how to do the intramusclar type injections. We are going for a follow up with family doctor friday, hopefully they can show me how to give it.

Does he have any heart issues (blockage, high cholesterol, past heart problems)? If so, I would assume that's why the docs don't want to prescribe the Imitrex. That's the boat I'm in . . . could be very dangerous for me. 02 is my only abortive and has kept me from many a dance. As to the other drugs . . . wow . . . the real pharmaceutical pros will I'm sure be along to offer their advice/experience regarding them. Hope he sees some PF time soon. Be Safe, PFDANs Richard

. . . . and MAKE SURE he gets a non-rebreather mask with his 02 set-up . . . absolutely needed for maximum effect . . . hope it works this time. Let us know when he gets it and we'll walk him through its use . . . takes a little practice, but if done correctly, aborts the hits for 70% of us . . . expecially if used early-on in the attack.
