Questions about Red Bull

Hi everybody.
I've often read about red bull and the benefits for most of you.
Actually I assume my preventive dose of verapamil (240mg p/d) and it does a pretty good job as most of the times; but the last few days I have had some signal that makes me think to increase the dose (in the past I've reached the 360mg).
Before doing that, I want to give a try to red bull ( the taste is not bad)  Grin.
In internet I read all I found about taurine and caffeine, but of course not what I'm interested to know.
Doing a search in the forum I'm sure I can find the answers, but would you -please- briefly resume some points for me?
- when to drink? (before, during the attack/cluster? every day?);
- how much? (in Italy we have the 250ml cans, in case are not standard);
- keep drinking it also in remission?
I just wrote a thread in our forum about red bull and many of my 'brothers' are willing to try (what we all wouldn't do to kill the beast  Wink).
Last question: I read that red bull has been banned in some country; what about?
Thank you and ....... remission for all, tony

Hi Tony,

Red Bull is used as an abortive - drink it at the very first sign of an attack.

One 250-ml can seems to be enough for many. Some use two cans. In the US, there are a lot of similar taurine/caffeine drinks available in 16-ounce (about 500 ml) containers.

I don't drink it when in remission - makes me jittery. A few people are experimenting with taking taurine in capsules as a preventive.

Some countries have limits on how much caffeine can be in a drink, (Australia is one) and some energy drinks are banned there because of that.

- when to drink? (before, during the attack/cluster?
Drink it at the very first sign and drink it fast.

every day?);
If necessary

- how much? (in Italy we have the 250ml cans, in case are not standard);
I've seen it in 250 and 500 ml. I will usually drink 2 x 250ml. back to back

- keep drinking it also in remission?
I do but not necessarily for CH

Hi Tony,

I use energy drinks as an abortive in conjunction with O2 therapy.  I down an energy drink before starting O2.  This combination has reduce the number of reattacks I get from O2 alone.

I believe it is the Taurine more than the Caffeine that is effective in these drinks.  The number of ml is not as important as the amount of Taurine in the drink.  You want around 1000mg or Taurine.

Make sure your Dr is informed of your using energy drinkg.  Taurine is a calcium channel blocker.  You should use caution when mixing Taruine with other calcium channel blockers like Kudzu or Verapamil.  Don't exceed 2000mg of Taurine in 24 hours.

Good luck...

Some young people got very drunk (drinking mixed drinks containing red bull and distilled alcohol). So media and politicians blame their problems on red bull. There is a myth that energy drinks can sober people up. They do not. When drunk people drink energy drinks and think they are sober, they do stupid things.

I did not know this.  Every time I have taken any type of calcium channel blocker, I have swollen up and had to discontinue.  I do drink energy drinks for ch and still have some problems with swelling (have not been able to remove ring for over 6 months).  The swelling is not as severe, but I have been wondering why it's still there........hmmmmm

I didn't realize it either.  Credit goes to Annette for enlightening me.  I'm just passing on the knowledge.

I'd be curious if discontinuing energy drinks help your swelling.
