I went to get my Topamax and Imitrex refilled and was told by the pharmacist that the trex now comes in a 4 mg dose along with the 6 mg dose. Does that means I will be able to get more doses from my neuro. if I opt. to use the lower dosage next time he writes me a new script? I can't bring myself to use the imitrex tip of half dosing.

I cannot see why not. Instead of eg: 2x 6mg = 12 mg , rather have 3 x 4mg = 12mg. Let him do the math.... !

Depends on your insurance. Most only cover a certaim number of doses like 24 tablets of Trex per month. Doesn't matter if they're 50mg or 100mg, only cover 24.

For me it does. My Insurance will only give me 2, 6mg injections a month but will cover 4 of the 4mg injections. I stockpile when not in cycle. -Dennis-

From what I have seen., the cost for the 6mg vs. the 4mg is no different. Try getting the vials and draw out the amount that is needed, most of the time I could get three shots out of one 6mg vial.

We have been abscent for some time from the boards, but now the beast is back! The 4 mg have been available since aug/sept. Luckily our insurance is generous, we get 12 boxes of the vials (25 vials X6mg each) , 12 boxes of 6mg stats and 12 boxes 4mg stats per MONTH I always cut the dosage on all to 2.5 mg for DH. I take the stats apart and use a q-tip to push it into the vials (empty) then draw it ou into sryinges. first time my mom saw me she thought I was nuts!

To get the vials, our family doctor writes the pres and the pharmacy special orders it in for us, they automatically order 12 boxes a month, as we stock pile just in case the insurance decides to stop be so generous so we have plenty on hand
