Bee Venom Therapy for Cluster Headaches?
« on: Nov 21st, 2007, 5:48pm »

Has anyone tried bee venom therapy (shots / stings),  or "Manuka honey with Bee Venom" for cluster headaches?  I planned on trying it months before my last cycle started (10/07), but due to the anger, depression, and stress of dealing with a cycle , I completely forgot.  The cycle ended in early November 07, so I cannot test it myself just yet.

The attached article claims that bee venom is a cure for migraines.  If so, can it help for Cluster headaches?  And NO, I'm not a salesperson.

http://www.manukahoneyusa.com/migraine.htm

Actiflex Plus may be the natural cure for migraine headache many have been waiting for. Actiflex contains active manuka honey, bee venom and ginger.

Bee-Sting Therapy without the Sting?

Actiflex is a natural migraine treatment, based on the findings of bee sting therapy. Actiflex may help break the cycle of migraine headache sufferers world-wide.
Why can Actiflex offer natural migraine pain relief?

Bee venom therapy is based on the principle of homeopathic medicine, that whatever substance can cause the symptoms of a disease can also be the cure for it.

Why can Actiflex offer natural arthritis pain relief?

Bee venom therapy, also called apitherapy, is based on the principle of homeopathic medicine, that whatever substance can cause the symptoms of a disease, can also be the cure for it.

The simulated bee sting (Actiflex, taken orally), causes the immune system itself to relieve the inflammation that was caused by it. This reaction can at the same time help relieve a migraine headache.

Actiflex is the best alternative natural cure for a migraine headache. This product is taken under the tongue where there is a high absorption rate. Actiflex is readily absorbed into the blood stream and transported through the blood. Taking Actiflex orally is completely painless, compared to live bee sting therapy or bee venom injections.

Research

Certain chemicals that occur naturally in bee venom, seem to have anti-inflammatory effects in the body. In fact, bee venom apparently helps to produce cortisoles in the body that act as a pain reliever. The antioxidant property of bee venom also naturally supports the immune system.

In 1973 the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology published a study about a certain compound that occurs naturally in bee venom, Peptide-401. The study proves that Peptide-401 to be 100 times stronger than hydro cortisone in its anti-inflammatory properties.

The other substance that occurs naturally in bee venom is Melittin. Melittin helps stop the production of harmful free radicals in the body. Free radicals can have negative effects on the joints. Another benefit of Melittin is that it causes the pituitary gland in the body to release ACTH, which in turn stimulates the adrenal gland to help produce the body’s own cortisol.

Bee Venom positively affects the immune system through the hypothalamus, pituitary and adrenal glands. Therefore, when compared to most other medications, bee venom therapy supports the immune system and does not weaken it.

Further compounds that can be found in bee venom are apamin, dopamine and adolapin. Apamin helps the synaptic transmissions in the body, while dopamine is known to stimulate motor activity. Adolapin seems to have a pain relieving, analgesic effect.

How do you take Actiflex as alternative medicine for a migraine headache?

Important! Consult with your doctor or nature-pathic doctor first, before purchasing Actiflex. Ask your doctor if you could be tested, to make sure that you are NOT allergic to bee venom and ask if Actiflex may have any contradictory reaction to any other medication you may be taking? Ask your doctor if you can replace any current medication with Actiflex, or if you need to continue with all medication, plus Actiflex?

Actiflex Plus is best taken without food and left under the tongue as long as possible, since tasteless bee venom is best absorbed in the mouth. Start out by taking just 1/4 teaspoon of Actiflex Plus once a day, as some people may risk allergic reactions. A small amount of Actiflex Plus can help immunize your body. The next day take 1/2 teaspoon, the next day 3/4 teaspoon. On the 4th day take 1 teaspoon of Actiflex. Continue to slowly increase the amount of Actiflex. At the end of 2 weeks, you should be able to take 3x1 teaspoon of Actiflex per day - this is the maximum amount.

 Warning:
This product may cause a reaction in allergy sufferers. If you suffer true systemic allergic reactions to bee stings, or are using beta blockers, ACE inhibitors or non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs, seek medical advice BEFORE using this product!

Hmmm.....so what causes the problem can often be the cure.........I'm going to start selling boiled hypothalumus as a cure for CH. Grin Grin

On the off chance you are not a salesperson Undecided......(I know but it's my philosophy to give EVERYONE  the benefit of the doubt)......please save your money. I mean I suppose there is the remotest possibility a bee sting could cure cluster head aches,.........I would certainly try a more traveled road such as lithium, verapamil, topomax, oxygen, imitrex, zomig, before I'd buy any of this snake oil. But it's your money!!!!

If you're a sales person, start running quickly in a serpentine fashion and stay low..........There are many excellent shots on this board!! laugh

I wonder if since this is supposed to cause a natural release of cortisol, making it 100 times better than hydrocortisone (which is essentially prednisone) it means 100 times the side effects....100 times the weight gain, 100 times the moodiess, 100 times the acne.....and anyway too much cortisol in your body suppresses the immune system, while this claimes to boost it?

hmmmmm.......
 Undecided

The way I see it, taking 100 times the amount of cortisol your body makes (about 8g) would produce the same results this claims to do, so that means take 800mg of prednisone!  Wanna do that?

Guiseppi,

I AM NOT A SALESMAN.  I suffer this ridiculous disease along with everyone else here.  You should believe in testing natural therapy and not just medications.  To say this is snake oil is a joke.  After all, the best natural product known to work for CH so far is magic mushrooms.  I don't know about you but I'm researching for a cure, not a band-aid.   Cool

I do believe in testing, and am one of the more open minded people on this board. I was trying to soften the blows of those who are not as tolerant who are likely to follow my post.

When I see a product that claims to cure Multiple sclerosis, ulcers, heartburn, surgery scars, psoriasis, acne, canker sores, arthritis, migrains, .....I quit reading after 2 pages..... The logical mind tells you if there was ANY truth to their claims it would be a little more well known. You asked for my opinion, my opinion is it is snake oil.

I would exhaust every well known treatment, all of the treatments on this board that have high to moderate success rates, and then try some of the long shot medications, before I would waste a red cent on what I still believe to be, snake oil.

Again, just Guiseppi's humble opinion, certainly not to be taken as gospel, nor in any way shape or form an attack on you sir.

Guiseppi,

No offense taken.  I don't know if this works or not.  I was posting this to find out if anyone tried it.  BTW, you could try this therapy for free, with no money out of your pocket.  Just grab a bee and sting yourself at the onset of a Cluster..... Grin  Sorry, I'm laughing hard at that last sentence.  When I reach my next cycle, I'll BEE the Guinea Pig.

I suppose a person could buy this product, but it sounds like they might get stung.

I hate it when people walk around selling products like this then they pass the responsibility to the doctors so that if anything go wrong it will be the doctors fault!

My medical advice ? Dont use this product ! Or use it at your own risk !

I've read alot of stuff about manuka honey but not with bee venom or stings or whatever though.

What I WILL say here is that I have tried manuka honey for my stomach problems - I figured it couldnt make things worse! It tastes like molten candle wax, not like honey at all - it's truely VILE but - it does seem to have made a difference. It could just be I was due to start healing anyhow or it could be that it helped. I'll never know really but where I can see how certain stuff in honey might help with digestive problems or such I cannot see how it can help with headaches.
